The Lyrics

this is a song dedicated to babe ruth.i am english and know jack about base-ball so please bare that in mind
match his base-ball swing
and hit it like a rocket
watch it as it soars away
match his base-ball pitch
have the batter in your pocket
doing it bambinos way

for he was born in balti-more in maryland
in eighteen 95
he became jacks newest baby
when he joined the boston red sox

playing like a star and moving to the yankees
hitting outta wrigley field
sultan of swat he's
topping all the averages
showing cobb the babe ruth way

his helen died in nineteen 29
and it broke his heart
and just in case you thought he would be lonely
he made dorothy his next wife
(dorothy his next wife)
hum hum hum hum hum

watching babe ruth you know you can't knock it
memories never fade away
babes the only star who'd show us were he'd put it
sent it on it's merry way

and when those bubbles started muliplying
and out of site
uneasy in cold sweat babe ruth is dieing
with a throatful of cancer blight

watch the fallen star
who's given so much pleasure
in april it's bambino's day
babe ruth the greatest star
to wear a baseball mit
shame we din't see him play
(shame we didn't see him play)
shame we didn't see him play
i wrote it without listening to the song and i hope it doesn't sound to bad if you do listen and sing along

I wouldn't have realized you weren't American had I read the parody before your intro. This pretty much describes how I feel about "The Babe" and, since I live 15 miles from Boston, I'm a Red Sox fan. 555

That's very good without knowing about baseball (me either) or the song. But I do know the stars of baseball (some of them). 5's

Another Red Sox fan here, and I like baseball parodies that tell a heartwarming story. Good job.

Not a bad parody, but... and don't take this personally, but a few facts need to be cleared up... The death of Helen Woodford Ruth (1903-1929) death certainly hurt him, because despite all he'd done to upset her, he still had feelings for her. But by 1925 they'd both moved on. His longtime mistress became his second wife, and her name was Claire. Dorothy was the Babe's daughter with yet another woman, and the cover story was that Helen (the first wife) was her real mother. Dorothy Ruth Pirone (1921-1989) wrote "My Dad, the Babe" about her father. Claire Hodgson Ruth (1900-1976) had a daughter, Julia, and she is now the caretaker of the Babe's legacy and image. Julia Ruth Stevens (1917- ) has also written about him, in "Major League Dad." The Yankees, Red Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks (at last checked, she lived in Arizona) have all invited her to throw out ceremonial first pitches. I realize that the birthdates mean that Claire was 17 when Julia was born. Considering her own lifestyle -- she was a "flapper" before the style, let alone the term, came into use in the Roaring Twenties -- it's hardly impossible. But I suspect that Claire may have been lying about her age later on. From youth to old age, she was a piece of work, and may have been behind the supposed rift between Ruth and Lou Gehrig. But she did right by her man. Renee Taylor, mom Sylvia Fine on "The Nanny," did a great job playing Claire in the baseball film "61*."

Not a funny song, more like a history lesson put into verse. Well written though.

(Decathlon - Event 1) You think YOU know jack all about baseball...I'm Aussie, mate! I wouldn't have a clue! I don't even know who you're talking about...sort of.

(Decath1) - rolls alonf nicely to the OS, tomario, and being an Aussie like bobpie, I don't get the baseball references, altho I certainly know Babe Ruth - I once went out with a girl called "Ruth Day" (hello Ruth if you're ego-surfing) and if you google her name you keep coming up with a famous annual baseball event - 555

(ABC3-P) Matches the tone of TOS well. Kudos for taking on a topic completely foreign to you.

(ABC3P) I miss the Decathlon as well, it gave me a reason to exist :P still a good parody about a topic that neither of us have a clue about (and im my case, don't care about)

(ABC) Not a big baseball fan, but you showed your knowledge of the sport here really well, 555

(ABC3) Sometimes a topic totally foreign to a writer makes for a buried treasure. A lot of research went into this, no doubt. Good job.

(ABC) see above - hard to work out where the initial idea came from here - not the title I suspect but maybe the "hit it like a rocket" line which is a very nice sub tomario (didn't know you were English - nope, no mention of the Ashes here)
Michael McVey - January 30, 2007 - Report this comment
Great parody biography, except you didn't say anything about his cursing the Red Sox (lol)----MM

(ABC) Wrigley Field? I don't think he was ever a Cub! (I'd know otherwise with all the Cub people in my town!) But other than that, good work.
