The Lyrics

President Obama certainly is NOT Sheriff Clarence Dupnik and Obama's allies in the press and government. The latter, without a shred of evidence, have tied the Tucson tragedy to the angry rhetoric of talk radio, the Tea Party, Fox News, and anyone to the right of William Ayres. President Obama, while making no attempt to mute the equally hateful verbage of his supporters, instead called for civility in our political discourse. It would appear that the "new civility" only applies to one side. ;D

It's called The New Civility.
Obama says it ought to be
The way we should engage in our discourse.
Turn down that hateful rhetoric
And all that monstrous angry shtick!
Foreswear those words of vi-o-lence and force.

It's only the right wing
That says this stuff -
Those phrases that might sting
And words so rough!
The angry words you hear today
You'll never hear progressives say:
"Just punish all your opponents", son.
"If they bring a knife then we'll bring a gun!"
"Punch them back twice as hard!"(1)
'Twas Sarah Palin who said this - the right wing bard!
Plays the hate card!

It's called the New Civility.
We must have this ability.
Rush Limbaugh causes all this hate you see.
And all this mass insanity
Is caused by folks like O'Reilly.
You won't here it on M.S.N.B.C.!

But Anthony Weiner
And Steve Cohen -
There's nobody meaner,
Don't cross them, friend!
The newfound niceness we confide
Only applies to just one side.
What S.E.I.U. does - no one cares,
When they put Wal-Mart in their cross hairs.
This thought was not conceived in haste.
For we will "never let a crisis go to waste"!
Sean, how's that taste!!

(Slower In Freer Time)

All the networks and press report it -
Only right wings engage in mean speech!
Like those damn talk radio "sons of stitches"!
The good will - they distort it, uh huh.
Those creeps over-reach!
We made P.C.! All their words we'll muffle
As we go on - with angry scuffle.
What's good for the goose ain't for the gander,
So don't expect us to give you candor.
Get ready for a fight!
The New Civility is meant to gag the right!

(1) In case anyone missed these quotes, Sarah Palin didn't say them...President Obama did! Believe it or not, I really toned this one down from my earlier drafts. Call it my contribution to the New Civility. ;D

I LOVE TOS "The Bare Necessities" It's one of my top most favorite songs, and I really love your parody too! The Bare Necessities to me would be a difficult song to parody, so you sure have my vote! My 555 vote that is! ;-) I'll balance out your two ones with another three 5's and see if that helps a little. :-)

While I'm not entirely sure I agree with the thrust of your argument, I do think this was a brilliant parody - well-written and wonderfully witty.
