"Rubber Bullets"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Bridge is a parody of chorus of MacArthur Park,
performed by Richard Harris & Donna Summer.
Just what did I do that was so evil?
Did you see me do anything wrong?
No, I wasn't aware there were problems way over there.
& now you're using your baton
to encourage me to move along.

Were we such a threat to your own safety?
Did you see a threat to anyone's life?
I was trying to help someone your friends already felled.
And then you come up from behind,
your baton connecting with my spine.

RUBBER BULLETS fired at the crowd.
RUBBER BULLETS, two hundred and forty rounds.
RUBBER BULLETS, for crying out loud,
for crying out loud.

You want us to run in that direction.
But how can I run when I'm knocked to the ground?
All our camera gear, are we supposed to leave it all here?
And as you fire another round,
who's recording what is going down?

CHORUS

MacArthur Park is pelted before it's dark,
all the short brown bodies falling down.
Someone let the bullies out again.
I don't think that I can take it,
'cause my head, they're trying to break it.
And I'll never have that sense of peace again.
Oh, no. Oh,- no.-

CHORUS

Is it any wonder most of all the injuries reported
were reporters?
Is it any wonder someone might just be afraid,
if they spoke up or complained, they'd be deported?
Mayday! Mayday! You've got blood on your hands.
Mayday! Mayday! Just who is in command?

I remember this incident. Not so funny. Neither is the song. Maybe not supposed to be. Seems more social commentary than funny
