The Lyrics

Political commentary on the trend in Europe to move away from military allegiance with the US, as Germany, Italy, Spain, France and even to a certain extent the UK, build their own EU-wide Military Industrial complex. Soon to come, an EU constitution providing a military role for the 15 nation union independent of NATO and independent of it's member states. Strangely, the USA has ignored (at least publicly) this growing alliance.
You never talk to us anymore unless you need help
You call us weasels and you manipulate the UN
You're pulling out of Kyoto (Georgie)
But Georgie, believe us we notice

You've lost your Euro allies
Wo-oh your Euro allies
You've lost your Euro allies
Now they're gone, gone, gone, gone their own way

You will not help us fight global warming in our world
You try to make us eat your inferior GMO food
You say we forget you helped us (in war)
Believe us, you never will let us

You've lost your Euro allies
Wo-oh your Euro allies
You've lost your Euro allies
Now they're gone, gone, gone, gone their own way

In past decades, we'd always bow our heads to you
(to you, to you, to you)
But now instead, we'll throw our weight behind the EU
(EU, EU, EU)
We had a treaty, a treaty you just don't sign every day
But George, Dick, Donald, Condi let it slip away
Don't need your tanks (We'll make our own)
Don't need your guns (we'll make our own)
Don't need your planes (we'll make our own)
Don't need your troops

You've lost your Euro allies
Wo-oh your Euro allies
You've lost your Euro allies
Now they're gone, gone, gone, never to return, no way

Interest timing that this parody comes out on the morning that we learn of the death of Bobby Hatfied, the tenor half of the Righteous Brothers. I liked the lines that ended with "to you" and "EU" - too bad you couldn't have found a way to rhyme more lines.

I submitted this parody yesterday, only to discover this morning that Bobby Hatfield had died. The timing is regretable and was certainly not intended.

On the contrary, Laurence, I think the timing is perfect. Good effort, well thought out satire, and I agree that the Bush administration has squandered what political capital it had. The myth of the lone cowboy as president has unfortunately begun to resemble reality. Best regards, d;:^)

"If you believe in forever, then life is just a one-night stand. If there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, you know they got a hell of a band." -- lyrics by Alan O'Day, recorded by the Righteous Brothers in 1974.
