Song Parodies -> "Petty Woman"

Original Song Title:

"Pretty Woman"

Original Performer:

Roy Orbison

Parody Song Title:

"Petty Woman"

Parody Written by:

Rick Duncan

The Lyrics

Truth is no stranger to friction.
Petty Woman Takin' me to court
Petty woman For that kid support
Petty woman
You told the judge you're destitute
You sit at home counting my loot

Petty woman You now garnish me
Petty woman Watch your huge T. V.
Petty woman
I own a car that doesn't run
While you go out and have your fun

Arrrggghhhh!

Petty woman dress in style
Petty woman lawsuits file
Petty woman shop a while
On me---eeee
Petty woman feed the beast
Petty woman all the lawyers feast
Cause you need me to pay the bills
But as a bonus you get some thrills

Petty woman-- there you go again
Petty woman—playin' that violin
Petty woman
Please go away, hey
Today

If that's the way you want to play
Already took the home we built
It's just like tithing but no guilt
Why do I work?
Is she talking back to me?
Yes, she's sending flack to me
Oh No, Petty woman

MP3? Rad & MAD? Might be gone by now.

All that's missing is another comment on the ex: "No mercy!" You sure got the "Arrrrgh!" right.

I've been married to the same lady for 32 years come the 18th of this month. I've been married my entire adult life. This is why I can laugh so hard at this parody. Nice work RIck.

Must be nice stealing ideas, huh.....?
Rick D - December 14, 2003 - Report this comment
I wouldn't know, "Someone who knows". I use my own name and I've been writing for 28 years. If you read my bio you'll find that I have over 300 ORIGINAL songs and have produced many others. I looked up your song of the same title and found very little in common with mine. I heard the Roy Orbison song on T.V. and immediatly thought of my ex wife. When I first came on the site, I posted one called "Gross to you" and Malcom Higgins made a comment about stealing. Now he knows better. When you get onto the "hundreds" club like us, you'll find plenty of overlap. Before you make a crack like that again, I suggest you read the whole parody and see if even 20% is the same. As every good writer will tell you, ideas are cheap, it's what you do with them that matters. By the way, yours was very good for a first parody, as the comments reflected. Let me know if you researched it first to make sure no one else had the same title.

Oh please - these songs' lyrics have almost nothing in common. Why is this even an issue?
malcolm higgins - December 14, 2003 - Report this comment
oh Rick.. ouch on that "stealing" line.. my comments were tongue in cheek man.. wait till you hit the thousand club, and see how often you get that crap..lol you did beatles like no one else, and I was really laughing when I said that k?
Leah Lockhart - December 14, 2003 - Report this comment
I never know where to draw the line if mine is too close to something someone else has done. Chances are, most of us don't "steel" ideas but there are so many parodies on this site and certain ones lend themselves to certain rhymes. I had written an entire "summer of 99" but didn't post it because two other people had written about their horrible summers. But mine was 100% original and based on a true story. I also find this weird psychic vibe on this site that the minute I start working on something, someone else does something similar. So I just wait a couple weeks before writing a new one... On that note, good parody... Roy orbison wrote a song about Leah once...

I realize that Malc. It was just the first time I got it when I was new. And understandable since there is so much here. I was just using you as an example. You've earned the right make those cracks, and you have no aliases. I'd just like "Someone who knows" to either imply he's kidding, or put in a bio so we know who he is. I'm not upset with anyone, but I felt the need to defend myself against a short, readable by anyone accusation.
