The Lyrics

I feel the need to explain why this song was written...not to make fun of the homeless, but to remind everyone that in this season of joy and plenty, many are homeless. I have talked to many homeless people at the shelter where I sometimes volunteer in the serving line, and the stories are sometimes beyond belief. If you have a spare buck, the Salvation Army are usually easy to find this time of year. They will thank you, as I do now. No need to vote on this at all, it wasn't written for laughs.
I'm reeking from last night's libations
Got a dumpster lunch regurgitatin'
Soup de jour in gutter stands
If not for mud would be quite bland
And my next stop has not been planned
But I'll know it when I see some cans

Homeless bound, I wish I weren't, homeless bound
Home, clothes are grime-y cotten
Home, where the food's 'au rotten'
Home, where the rats lie plottin' violence towards me

Breakfast was some curdled cream
Then killed a fifth of old Jim Beam
With each frown, eyes avoiding me
The scum of all humanity
And every wrinkled nose I see
Reminds me just how much I reek

Homeless bound, I wish I weren't, homeless bound
Home, in my cardboard mansion
Home, where the bugs are dancin'
Home, with the rats romancin'
Right here beside me

Tonight I'll drink some wine again
I'll beg for cash, buy some gin
'Cause my old world's now gone to me
Can't trade this grandiosity
The craziness and blathering
Of homeless friends to comfort me

Homeless bound, I wish I weren't, homeless bound
Home, every day's the same here
Home, don't know who's to blame here
Home, wish I had a damn beer
And I'm quite hungry
Where's the next dumster?

hmmmm?

What Alvin said- especially the "au rotten" line. They don't have to all be funny.
John Barry - December 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Dee, I didn't get a chance to comment yesterday. Beautifully crafted and touching. Welcome back. Haven't seen your work in a while.

Kristof, Phil, and John, thanks so much. I've been super busy this time of year with the S. A. and don't have much time to write, but made some time to do this one. Thanks again, and merry Christmas to the whole Amiright family. Happy New Year also!!!

A perfect score for this is 5-0-5, because (I hope) it was not meant to be "funny."

Lurker, if you would read the preface to this parody, you would not have made such an idiotic statement.
