The Lyrics

Don't remember the original well enough to rate pacing? I found a copy on the web at: http://www.dragonslighting.com/iamarock.mp3
I lead the wa-a-ay
They are sheep, my true believers
I am their a-a-all
Grace them with my wisdom. How their numbers grow
Loyal legions follow everywhere I go.
I have a flock,
I'm their Messi-i-iah.

I've filled ha-a-alls
They throng to be beside me
My words they ve-enerate
And on their knees they worship, hallowing my name.
It's answers and it's loving that they crave
See how they flock,
To their messi-i-iah

I'm not a cu-u-ult,
But my words the world ado-ores;
They steep me in ido-olatry.
I've won disciples over, they seek me far and wide.
They're the lonely souls who've felt they're cast aside.
That's why they flock,
To their messi-i-iah.

They buy my boo-oo-ooks
To find quotes that hide deeper meanings
I'm ex-halted in their ar-ar-ardor
Right in all I do, sacred in their view.
I touch them all and each one touches me.
Why do they flock?
I'm no messi-i-iah

I cannot heal their pain;
'Cuz I'm just an average guy...

Yep, there've always been plenty of THOSE types walkin' around ... especially on TV. Good job!

Agnus Dei. 5s.
Melhi - March 08, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Johnny D.! Glad you enjoyed it, especially since it's partly your fault I submitted it. I'd had this commentary on fame & fandom kicking around in my noggin for quite awhile (more than a year) and wasn't planning to do anything with it, but with all the Trekkie parodies, lately, I thought it might make a nice companion piece to that prevailing theme. :)

All hail the goddess Melhi! Show us The Way, goddess! What is the meaning of life? Will the Red Sox repeat? What color pants should I wear today?
Ashkicksass - March 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Good hell, Melhi, this is righteous!
Melhi - March 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Claude and Ashkicksass! Claude: Sometimes a board game is just a board game, only if they have beans for lunch & that's a trick question: the correct answer is none, because you'll only take them off again, later. :)

(SOTM) Darned overzealous preacher ladies... XD good job!
Agrimorfee - April 14, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Interesting--I interpreted the song's narrator as a questioning or inadvertant messiah, unsure of what he is doing or why he is doing it...somewhat like the Jesus portrayed in "Jesus Christ Superstar" (or Brian of Nazareth from the Monty Python movie).
Melhi - April 14, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Ash and Agrimorfee.

Well done! Do the Sox have to have Beans for lunch everyday, only game days, or only when Claude asks the question?
Melhi - April 20, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Jeff! To answer your question, they should have beans on game day... (so they don't run out of gas halfway through the game, of course) *and* whenever Claude asks.
Scathe - April 22, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) The fact that they are preaching on television unwittingly takes away some of the sincerity.
Melhi - April 22, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks Scathe!

Thanks Claude, K1, Jordan, Spaff, Tim & Arwen! Claude.. because I went through your tra... I mean... the magnificent Melhi knows all. ;) K1 -- my mom assures me that's just because they're jealous. Jordan, I was hoping he'd choose "Pope Master Funky Fresh." Could be worse, he could have chosen "Pope Benedict Arnold"
