The Lyrics

How many companies do this anyway?
[intro]

Was off today

In a deep and com-fy slumber

*BRRANG!* rings the phone!...
Wonder who is calling?,
Out of bed I go,
A co-worker has a question for me, though:

I'm off the clock!
Don't have the time..... man!

Still they call
With questions all too petty
And oh.. they... irritate
Can they not see the schedule?,
I'm not there today,
If they want a consultant raise my pay!:

I'm off the clock!
Why are you call..... in'?

'But now you're up'
Well I've heard those words... before...
Won't take one for the company
'cause they disturbed my slumber,
And turned my day to shite,
It is not like I am gettin' overtime!:

I'm off the clock!
Find someone else..... man!

Phone's off the hook
Now I'm finally getting good sleep
I am cozy in my comforter*
Dreaming in my room,
Wakened all too soon,
I'm hearing something going *BEEP BEEP BEEP*!

Alarmed the clock!
Time to get up..... damn!

Launched that clock like a plane
And then time it - REALLY - flies!
copyright 2006+ Jack "Red Ant" Fletcher

*One pacing note: "armor" is stretched to 3 syllables in TOS so "comforter" fits well (enough) there.

Thanks Alvin, AFW, Joel, Larry, Pat, John B, Michael and John J.

Joel and Pat: I'm currently without a recording of any of my parodies though I hope to have the ability to do so later this year. The fact you asked for a recording pleases me greatly. Stay tuned, though no guarantees.

Oh God, don't remind me. I gotta go in at 2:45pm and deal with a white fat southern who is so frickin' annoying. And he gives me the worst jobs possible. Clean out all the glue that's exploded from the starch kitchen. Sort through a ton of wood, and seperate the crappy wood aside from the 2X4s and 4X4 good parody, 555

[AmiRight Classifieds] Add me to the list of those who can relate, although fortunately not as much lately. I like the way you finish this, getting back to bed and having the alarm go off.
Agrimorfee - March 16, 2006 - Report this comment
(Help Wanted) A little funky trying to stretch that armor over that comforter, IMHO.
Red Ant - March 17, 2006 - Report this comment
Thanks S.T.G., Rex, and Agrimorfee. Agrimorfee, armor in this song is sung roughly as "ar-ar-mor"; IMO it's 3 syllables, just as in Scarborough Fair/Canticle "cambric" is sung as "cam-ber-reck". Maybe I shouldn't point out the occasional (and incredibly minor) liberties I take with pacing....
Stuart McArthur - March 27, 2006 - Report this comment
I haven't used an alarm clock for fifteen years, but I always used to set it to allow 2 "sleep"s so that each week I'd wake up 15 times and only have to get up on 5 of them - 555 - nice "time-flies" gag set-up, too Red ;-) - 555
Matthias - March 28, 2006 - Report this comment
I actually once had this happen to me, and damn, it sucked.... Ah, I also agree with Stu about the "time flies" pun...
Jeff Reuben - March 30, 2006 - Report this comment
Classifieds: Ditto on time flies, my favorite line. Nice job, glad I don't get too many calls like that!

(Class) Now THAT'S a satisfying parody!
