The Lyrics

April slays like a knife and I'm smarting
'Cause I'm feeling broke and gloomed
Although I fight the shaft of doubt disheart'ning
Deep inside I'm doomed

It makes me so sad that I'm late
To know I'll file past the due date
I feel morose as I ponder my fate
My tax in arrears

I feel screwed
(Feel screwed)
Real screwed
(Real screwed)

This has left me miffed and steaming in another world
Seething till I'm overdone
Although I'm destitute, they still might prosecute
Because they will burn ya for fun

It makes me so mad and irate (oh-oh-ah)
To know that I'll procrastinate
Until I'm bitter and choking and queasy with hate
My tax in arrears (oh-oh-oh-ah)

I feel screwed
(Feel screwed)
Real screwed
(Real screwed)

Yea-ah-hey-yeah

Outside I'm past delaying
Inside my rope is fraying
Rush around, (ooh-yea-ah) since new rules abound
My guile is awaking
I swear since I'm breaking the rules

Maybe it's some good luck that I'm late (oh-ha-ah)
You'll see the miles I'll overstate
Yeah, just look closer, I'll reduce my rate
Ah, and crack a few beers

Baby, baby, baby, baby

Fake the good books I'll misplace (Ooh-ooh-yeah)
I'll be so sly they'll never trace
Just a little bit lower, it's easy to face
Yeah, my tax in arrears (oh-yeah...)

Very timely (unlike your return) and a 5 star lament. Not sure what's worse - paying money to give to the bankers or trying to figure out what the tax rules are. Both are a pain.

Lost love? No, something really worth crying about. Looks like you're bound for jail--or President Obama's cabinet.

Great job Leo, Smokey opened for me on the Donny and Marie show 10 years and 2 months ago (well, he did 55", I did the last 5"). Thanks for jogging those memories with the Yellow Rose of Taxes!

Leo, this is a great parody, and in case anyone wants to know, I got my taxes paid well before April 15th and I received my return check earlier this week, so all's good on my side as far as the IRS goes. It's great to see you back on AmIRight, and if you haven't got your taxes paid by now in real life, you are either looking at garnished wages (and I don't mean with an olive, parsley or a cherry), your house and/or car being seized, federal prison or any combination of the three, depending on how much back taxes you owe. Here are some more 5s.
