This song reminded me of the times I used to spend with my Grandmother. She had a full and rich life up until her last days. I still remember her smile for me and her eyes that twinkled so. At one point your song did bring tears to my eyes, but I will not say where it was in the song or why. You have my fives.

(SOTM) Not my favorite here...surprised so many people with prior experience enjoyed it. My fatherinlaw died of cancer 4 years ago. In his final months he couldn't get around and started getting dementia. We ended up taking care of him, and lemme tell ya, it was not fun at all. I'm not offended, but, this just wasn't my cup of tea.
I totally understand and agree with your thoughts, Agri. My recollections of the experience are of sadness, but with some ridiculous moments that enabled us to put an amusing, but repectful, spin onto - for our own coping purposes.
I tried to recreate that balance of sadness, philosophicalness (just made up that word) and whimsy with this parody - and hence my warning that it wasn't trying to be a funny piece. In fact Kim West's reaction was the one I was aiming for

(SOTM) Most of my elderly relatives have had Alzheimers, so this song speaks to me. Naturally, I'm scared to death of the disease, as it seems to run in the family, but hell, I'm 18. I'd be willing to bet that by the time I'm of age, either a cure will have been found, or the world will have ended. Nice parody, by the way. 5s!

This brings tears to my eyes, making me wonder if I'm not such a heartless bastard after all. This has the perfect balance, s2art, of heartache and humor, pathos and parody. You can achieve that tone like no other author I've read here.
Nothing makes me doubt the existence of deity like the cruel way good, strong people are reduced to senile wrecks who have to be mopped up. I dread the day when I end up as a helpless burden to others. When it happens, though, hopefully I'll be blissfully ignorant of it all, lost in a joyous haze of memories. I'm sure that Julie Andrews will show up periodically to sing "Something Good"; feel free to come along.

I agree with most everyone else on the clever combination of heartfelt emotion and humor. However, some relatively recent events in my life are preventing me from fully sharing in the humor here. It's hard when they live with you... I'm sorry, Stu. I want to support you on a heartfelt and touching work like this, but I'm not ready to find humor in that aspect of life yet.

(ABC3I) Ah, Stu. I see I left a rather brief comment before, which may have been construed as a lame cop-out. Well, it was, and for good reason: I had lost my grandmother to Altzheimer's about 7 months before this parody was posted, and didn't have much good to say about that (or this). I wrote a parody about that too (look for "Estranged" if you're so inclined), and it's something I had to do, as I suspect you had to do as well. I wish, with parodies like this, there were a 546 voting option.

Its a great parody Stu! Gotta great sense humor clubbed with some emotion. My grandpaa's situation is a lot like this. I'm trying to write one for my friend's birthday. Thats how I stumbled here, this one's got me going. Keep writing! Real good stuff :)
