"Outsourced to India"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Ten cents, fifty cents, cheap personnel
Jobs Americans do very well
Pink slips, cargo ships, third world is cheap
Outsourced to India, how can the boss sleep?
Stock shares, the staff abused
Management gains versus wages we lose.

Outsourced to India, jobs that we lost.
Screw ups turn out to have more of a cost.
Look for mistakes, always mistakes, got ya....
Look for mistakes, always mistakes, got ya...aaaa....

It's absurd how the third world we exploit
Can we really trust folks from Kane or Deloitte
'Experts' and 'specialists' - give me a break
'Consultants' - another word for scabs, for God's sake!
Stock shares, the staff abused
Management gains versus wages we lose

(Instrumental break)

Ten cents, fifty cents, cheap personnel
Jobs Americans did very well
Pink slips, cargo ships, third world is cheap
Outsourced to India, how can the boss sleep?

Shangri-la
Shangri-la
Shangri-la
Shangri-la (fade out)

There is a DSL company called Covad that outsourced all their tech support to Banglore. I did some research. That town has become a mini-Silicon Valley. The people are trained in American sports and holidays, given vocal training to lessen their accents, have college degrees, take on simple western names so that we don't have to ask twice, and are paid 5,000 to 8,000 bucks a year. If you ask, "Have you ever been to America?", the answer is always "Not yet". I have remarked to them, "Gee you all speak english so well". They say, "Well, it's the international language". I say, "You should see our voting ballots sometime". This is an issue our next president should take off the back burner.

Thanks, Rick D and Rice Cube. This song parody came after I watched the 'News Hour' on our local PBS station. My, my, what's Punjabi for 'Would you like some fries with that?' though. We're being undersold and they're definitely being exploited, even the brightest of them. And it doesn't always work, either.

Yea, we could probably work for a more competitable yearly salary if they didn't outsource so much. It's the corporate greed that is causing the riff between the working middle class and the fat cats. It's the old saying from that depression era song, "The rich get richer and the poor get poorer" - Yeah ain't we got fun?

This is an excellent parody, but I'm not sure that I agree that outsourcing is a problem. The more that we outsource to India, the more computers and other products and services Indian companies buy from American companies. Some American jobs are lost, but it's mostly a win-win situation, especially for consumers.

Very good job, PK.

Thank you, Guy, John J. and Meriadoc! This is turning out to be an interesting discussion, BTW. While I see your point, John, can we be so sure that the microchips and components aren't being produced by Chinese or Mexican factories? Can we be so sure that Mike at the cellphone service desk isn't actually Madesh answering the phone in Bangalore? And if we outsource, why not to Canada and Russia, for that matter?

You honestly think companies don't know what they're doing? Your song is so incredibly narrowminded, did you know stocks go up when companies outsource?! Cheaper labor=cheaper product=cheaper price for consumer=more purchases and better competition=profit=better stocks. I don't think you know economics very well to criticized something like this. Proof is that you asked why America doesn't outsource to Canada or Russia. These are developed first world countries and it would be more expensive to make products there because you have to pay higher labor wages AND for the exports back to America. I for sure know that Indians have some of the most prestige and brightest students on the face of the planet. Check out India's top university, IIT, it's harder to get into than Harvard. Indian kids that don't make it have to go to an Ivy League school ...that is if they can get a student visa of some sort. The bottomline is that India is a third world country, and outsourcing is developing the nation while producing cheap products for the consumer. To be part of an American company is rare in India, not all Indians do it. Much of its population lives in poverty and without homes. To many Indians, $5,000-$8,000 is a very very high paying job and many are excited to take it. Don't hold them back for your own unsatisfactory greed...they honestly deserve some of these jobs for their hard work through childhood and college. If American's want jobs, they would also need to work hard for it just like these Indians have. No one is going to give you a job in America if you're underqualified. Also, prospect your dreams further than the ideal of a 'Customer Service Rep'...you can honestly become anything without going to an Ivy League School, you live in America and are richer than atleast 90% of the rest of the world. Your dreams are not stopped by companies wanting to outsource. So today, I would like to welcome you to America..since day one we've been a capatlisitc company, without much business regulations unlike more social countries. It's the reason you pay less taxes (less governmental regulation=less money) and is the reason for America's rich background. If you hate outsourcing, move to China... you'll GET jobs there.

This song is right on.....my dept just got outsourced.... got to do a 'Knowledge Transfer' of my 10 years of experience with the company in 3 months....HA. And Andrew has no clue... Cheaper labor=cheaper product=cheaper price for consumer=more purchases and better competition=profit=better stocks. And if I'm out of a job....I'm guessing I'll be buying...LESS.... even if the price is lower.
