Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

"Ladd's Movie (Often Went Awry)"

La-a-a-add’s movie often went awry.

When Stevens started makin’ the movie, “Shane,”
Monty Clift was the lead s’posed to be playin’,
but when he had to recast Al Ladd won
the title role even tho’ he could not aim a gun.

Too, Van Heflin had to fill in a void
when Bill Holden proved otherwise employed
and Palance (cast as evil guy, of course)
it turned out wasn’t very comfy sittin' astride a horse.

So-oh-oh La-a-a-add’s movie often went awry
Woe-oh-oh La-a-a-add’s move often went awry

Now, Kate Hepburn was gonna play the love in’trest,
but in the end Jean Arthur was thought best.
And tho’ unthrifty and years late to screen
“Shane”’s got to be among the best oaters I’ve seen.

Tho’-oh-oh La-a-a-add’s movie often went awry,
Whoa-oh for La-a-a-add’s movie, all turned out alright.

ooo oo-oo-oo oo-oo
ooo oo oo oo
La-a-a-add’s movie turned out fi-i-ine.

.

:-) Irony at work -- had a bout of insomina last night and woke up around 2am or so to find .... yep, "Shane" just starting up on the tuned-to channel on the left-on TV. Stayed up to watch .. still a grand old-fashioned oater, including a the bar fight sequence of truly top-notch preposterousness. :-)

I share your "Shane" assessment. Is it Sue Thompson time? She also did "Paper Tiger." How about "Faked It: Niger," the bogus yellowcake pretext for Iraqnam"

Thanks, JAB. I'd forgotten about "Paper Tiger," but first parodistic thought upon sounding out the title was "Pay For Ride Here," remembering ticket booths beside each attraction at the traveling carnival that was still a fire brigade fundraiser in my town in the mid-'60s. :-)
