The Lyrics

In New York, wedding planners, photographers, florists, owners of honeymoon cottages are all excited about the new law permitting same-sex marriages. If gay marriages work out about the same way that heterosexual marriages do, there is another profession that's going to be cashing in on the law in a few months or years. For the record, I am straight. This song is written from the perspective of a gay man whose romance has gone sour.
Our wedding was a year ago, he's quite a manly man
And we shared a special love, Fred Phelps doesn't understand
My G.U.Y., he was a genuine P.R.I.Z.E.
But I just received the awful news
That he's walking out on me

Our D.I.V.O.R.C.E becomes final today
My ex-L.O.V.E.R. will be moving away
I feel the hurt, emotional, but the real reason that I cry
Is this cost an S.H.I.T. - load of M.O.N.E.Y.

Watch him smile, like Christmas morning
It's his lucky day
'Cause he knows that G.A.Y-Bye-Bye spells "pay" and "day"
I'm spelling those big number words
My life is a total wreck
I'm bidding my whole world farewell
While writing out this check

Our D.I.V.O.R.C.E became final today
First one granted in our state, where the couple is gay
The Bar Association is cheering, we all know the reason why
They'll make an S.H.I.T. -load of M.O.N.E.Y.

Patrick - The inevitable consequence. My brother, who difuses controversial questions with humor, would like to see marriage redefined...as one man and multiple women. ;D

OMR. The Supreme Court ruled against multiple marriage in the 19th century, primarily as an attack on the controversial Latter Day Saints. Polygamy has been accepted in many cultures for millenia. The idea of calling same-sex unions "marriage" is, to my understanding, very recent. If same-sex unions are accepted under the law, then I really can't see any logical or constitutional barrier to multiple partner marriage, homo, hetero or mixed. Mormon sects which never accepted the Church's change in doctrine still practice polygamy in isolated areas, mostly undisturbed. Amongst the growing Muslim population, this has to exist, out of sight of authorities, who would be reluctant to prosecute for fear of being labeled "racist". Same sex marriage is just unpopular enough among a broad segment of the population that the Courts will find it irresistible to impose its legal acceptance by judicial fiat. Polygamy will follow simply from fear of being branded as discriminatory. And it will be the result of Islam, not Mormonism. Store this prediction away and dig it up in five or ten years.
