The Lyrics

wanting to improve our lot is just human nature....
Goodbye to you, sweet microwave
you always were my fav'rite galley slave
together we cooked rice and roasts
but you couldn't cook my toast
so I'm sorry - that's all folks!

yes microwave, it's time to die...
to go to that big kitchen in the sky
appliance twilight home for you
you were good at what you do -
...but it's the only thing you knew

we enjoyed what you've done, but the reasons to succumb
to the latest gadget whore
were too weighty to ignore

Goodbye my trusty timber home
you've always been our family's safety zone
when things went bad we'd come and nest
comfort-ing's what you did best
held us when we were depressed

But now it's time to say goodbye
there is an over-"house-like-you"-supply
investment-wise you're good as dead
need a period homestead -
...to get financially ahead

gave us joy, gave us fun, but the reasons to succumb
to a chance, to enhance
our finances, were advanced

so much joy, now undone, but the reasons to succumb
to an asset strategy
were significant indeed

Goodbye Papa!! - please don't blame me
you were too much for our family
my kids and you don't get along
you kept preaching right and wrong
when you should've tagged along

Goodbye Papa!! - though you were right
sometimes it's better to avoid a fight
our kids can be a bit unfair...
If you aint got too much hair...
too uncool, they will declare

I enjoyed bein' your son, but the reasons to succumb
to "Club Dodgy" Nursing Home
well, they cut me to the bone

there was joy, there was fun, but the reasons to succumb
to our ever-changing needs
make us do these tragic deeds

so much joy, now undone, but the reasons to succumb
to a better way of life
mean we must give you the knife

we enjoyed what we've done, but the reasons to succumb
(fade)

I opened this, for some reason, expecting something totally different. But this is FAB, Stu...nice work!

(ABC) Hm, not what I thought it would be either. Not to say that I am disappointed in that. It's just...I don't get what this is about. Very deep, but I...I don't get it.
Stuart McArthur - November 15, 2005 - Report this comment
Agri - it's about succumbing to personal ambitions, or aspirations, or our egocentric needs to enhance our public image - and how core values like loyalty, respect or gratitude can become the victim of that tendency

but I admit the message isn't as clear on my re-reading it as I thought it was when I wrote it :-)
maybe I'll succumb to writing a shiny new version and erasing this tired old model
Red Ant - November 15, 2005 - Report this comment
R05-Great rhyming, and the message was clear enough for me, especially after you explained it. =). Good seeing one of your more serious works Stu. And what Jack Wilson said. ;-)
