Parody Song Title:

"Jesus On A Bun"

Parody Written by:

Kristof Robertson

The Lyrics

Sometimes, miracles really do occur. Not sure if this is one of those times....
I'll tell you how this tale began;
I owned a bak'ry near the Vatican
Preparing rolls and past-e-ries
Hot snacks with or without cheese
For tea breaks in the Holy See

But late last week was when I saw
Beside the croissants, behind the bearclaw
The Son of God, there on display
So shocked, I spilled my latte
As I dropped to my knees to pray

Boy oh boy, I was stunned
Face of Jesus on a bun
Suddenly, he appeared
Currant eyes and frosting beard

Now you may think it was a trick;
Like when I saw Buddha in a breadstick
But I was not so drunk this time
In the pantry, built a shrine
Admission: 7.99...

And so they came, to wail and praise
And have a doughnut with the choc'late glaze
So many pilgrims on a quest
And they told me "We feel blessed,
Coz your krullers are the best!"

Altar boys, priests and nuns
All saw Jesus on that bun
So with heart full of hope
I went off to see the Pope...

I changed my shirt and washed my face,
And with that holy roll in my briefcase
Hurried 'cross St. Peters Square
Was the pontiff waiting there?
Did he have a sainthood to spare?

Thus, I met Benedict Sixteen
He asked me if my bun was filled with cream
I nervously replied, "Well, yes..."
So he said "Your bun I'll bless
After it's taken off for...tests"

I'm annoyed; feeling glum
Benny ate my Jesus Bun
On his robes, there were crumbs
Strawb'rry jam on both his thumbs

So annoyed; what a bum!
Holy pastry in his tum
Should've known...obviously
They love cakes in Germany!

Unemployed; truly stung
Coz I lost my Jesus bun
Now I work on a cart
Hawking fake religious art

Boy oh boy; hate that hun!
Coz he scoffed my Jesus bun
But I've got a new plan:
I'll sell teddies in Sudan!!

I assume it was a hot cross bun...lol funny!

If this isn't SOTM I'm turning in my parody license. Such a perfect lampooning of a much-despised OS is sure to save Kristof from an eternity in hell. Well, we can hope, anyway. 555 holy rolls.
Claude Prez - December 03, 2007 - Report this comment
This is hilarious. I actually had a sort of similar idea once, built around the line "Boy oh boy, here come nuns, and they're squeezin' all my buns". Glad I never did it though; this is way better. tmgltm and all that.

Great story telling Kristof!!! You just can't trust those papal Germans can you?
MasonR - December 03, 2007 - Report this comment
Very original, engaging and OH I didn't see that last line coming at all! One of your best!
Rick C - December 03, 2007 - Report this comment
Great story and, it's probably all true. :-) 555
Agrimorfee - December 03, 2007 - Report this comment
555 all the way...no worries, mate, but boy this reads like something that *I* would have written! :)

I saw Vishnu in a tissue once, and Buddha in a gouda. 555

Hehehehe....LOVED this one! Oh God, this song badly needed parodying.... and it someone with your calibre to do it excellently! Now I'm just going to HAVE to annoy my parents and sing this version whenever I visit them instead of the original ;^)) 555

The OS is my least fav song ever recorded, even parodied it twice, this was HILARIOUS,5s.
Phil Alexander - December 03, 2007 - Report this comment
Title sub of the year, with some brilliant storytelling to go with. You've got to watch those purple papal people, you know. At first, I read the title as "Jesus in a bun", and thought it might be a satire on the whole "holy communion" flesh-of-my-flesh sort of thing (or maybe what the Vatican branch of Mcdonalds is selling... come to think of it, that may well be worth a parody of its own). Even for your own rather exalted standards, this is a good one (I'll bet there was a bit of a grin when you came up with this idea).

Lets cancel December's SOTM and give the awards straight-out since we know who is going to win! 555

LOL! - that last line was brilliant Kristof, as was the whole thing of course - it may not be a great OS, but it does provide a great rhythm for parodies - the flow to this made it all the funnier, as did the whole fantastic storyline, and a target too - just the whole perfect package! - 555

Rex: "Hot cross bun"...d'oh! A brilliant joke I missed! Cheers, mate

Bob: Ta very much! As for Hades; I've already probably got a room with a view...

Claude: I betcha yours would've been BRILL! Thanks, and welcome back!

Matty: You're SO right, bro...especially when it comes to sweet snacks

Mason: To be honest, neither did I until about 5 minutes before I submitted this. Cheers

Rick: All my tales are 100% true-to-life: didn't ya know? :-D

Aggy: I'm honoured that this could be regarded as Agrimorfee-esque

Al: True, dude...but don't the worst songs ALWAYS make the best parody fodder?

McK: *groan*...with lines like that, do you want to do a duet? :-)

Wendy: Thanks a bunch, babe! Annoying parents is always a fun pasttime

Jack: Nobody likes this OS, do they? And yet it was a HUGE hit...go figure

Phil: Yeah, you could have much fun with this general topic area: be my guest! You're spot on about the grin: the hardest part of writing for me is coming up with a germ of an idea, and then a story arc to match...and this had me smiling for ages before I got dowwn to putting it together. Cheers, mate

Jase: Thanks for the kind words buddy, but with the calibre of writing on this site, there's no such thing as a sure bet.

Stu: Poor Terry! If he only knew the disdain with which his tune is held...:-D Yeah, the OS does suck, but you're right: the meter is perfect for parody writing, and the title provides great scope for creativity. Gracias, amigo

No petit fours--fives all the way. Interestingly, I'm involved with a project of painting a 16' x 20' grayscale rendition of Jesus on the roof of an art gallery.

What a hoot!!! Awesome job. My favorite line: "Altar boys, priests and nuns All saw Jesus on that bun" Sad truth is, we had a bank building down here in Clearwater,Florida where they thought the image of Mary was in the widows. And yes, "all the Catholics at Mass did see Mary in the glass..."

Kris - as I was writing that comment, I couldn't help but think there there's a parody there. Ganesh in a Knish? PM me if you're serious.

Well, you did say "be your guest"... a slightly different take on a similar title sub has been posted. As for "BOG", I've got one of them coming up, too :-)

Serves me right for being late to comment: all the good puns are taken... maybe not: MASSive improvement over TOS. 555.

Wow, that was brilliant. Made me laugh out loud! I'm not even going to bother trying to enter anything in the December SOTM, it would be pointless now.

(SOTM) Near divine. You managed to keep it hot and fresh until the end and caused me a hearty guffaw with the last line - you still got it, dude.

SOTM - I hear that America has declared war on obesity and all white bread products weapons of ass destruction, so maybe you oughta be glad that bun is out of your hands. :-)
McKludge - January 12, 2008 - Report this comment
SOTM - Since this one inspired my SOTM entry, it would be rude not to give this high marks. Luckily, its outstanding anyway. But I hope I can forget the OS. Not just one, but two closing key changes? Ouch.

Hey Kristof, really enjoyable. And loved the opportune current affait timing that allowed your last line! :)

(SOTM Dec 2007) - Obviously the Holy See thought he only saw something that he perceived as pareidolia. Too bad you didn't submit this during Lent. Benny may have given up the goodies for Lent. So you really can't have your cake and eat it too.

stuart mcarthur - January 30, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) wow, I nearly wrote exactly what I wrote before - yes, something about the rhythm of the chorus makes this particularly funny, Kristof, not that it needed any help - and for a new compliment I'll give you "Buddha in a breadstick" - LOL - 555
Below Average Dave (badave.com) - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Theidea was flawless Kristof, and I generally followed it well, but perhaps the video parody linked to was slightly different than the one this was based on because to me there were a few spots that didn't quite line up. . . still hilarious, and even though you changed up the rhyme scheme it worked.
