The Lyrics

Our pastor was gone for a 6 month furlough. This was for the welcome back bash. Our church is on the Piikuni Blackfoot reserve; that's why it's "Hey-ya" instead of "Hey-la"
"My Pastor's Back"

Spoken: He went away and you became discouraged every night
When I couldn't uplift you you said things that weren't very nice.

My pastor's back and you're gonna get a blessing
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
When you see him comin' you better tell him what is pressing
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
You've been in the dumps feeling oh so blue
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
So cheer up now 'cause he's comin' after you
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)

Hey he knows what you've been sayin'
And he knows that you've been prayin'

He's been gone for such a long time
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
Now he's back and things will be fine
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
You're gonna be sorry you were ever actin' gloomy
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
'Cause he's kinda wise and in Christ he's strong
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)

Hey, he knows I wasn't cryin'
Now you're gonna get a smilin'

What made you think he'd stay in Tennessee
(Wah-ooo, wah-ooo)
You're a big man now but it's all of us he's back to see
(Wah-ooo)
wait and see

My pastor's back, he's gonna teach the congregation
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)
If I were you, I'd give sin a permanent vacation
(Hey ya, hey ya, my pastor's back)

Hey I can see him comin'
Now you better start a-hummin'

(wah-ooo, wah-oo)
Wait and see!

My pastor's back he's gonna teach the congregation
(Hey ya, hey ya my pastor's back)
Yeah my pastor's back, well he's back now
My pastor's back
Well I can see he's comin', so you better get a hummin' alright now

(fade out)

This was only about average, but I gave you all fours for NOT taking the obvious route, the naughty pastor. The profession has enough problems.

Very good! A pretty clever rendition of the original, I think. Not especially funny, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
