Parish is the word I'd use to describe
The place my pastor runs to when he wants to hide
He won't say how many times he's been there to counsel you
He won't say how many folks he's had in there before you
He won't say how many times he's locked the doors so
There's no way anyone could hear
Parishing as he says his prayers for you

Parish is the place he's more than realized
And he hopes each person he's ever advised
That they have now taken it to heart to be redeemed
Jesus Christ has always been much more than what He seemed
Redeeming love's gonna be the thing to share that
Means much more than life and you won't
Perish when your life is over

Oh I was starting to think that man could not be found
He hides so professionally
He has a high amount of converts, really large crowd
That do it confessionally
He's always preachin' to them awful loud

Oh he could say he loves you, but you'd say he lies
Wants to save you, but you'd say everyone must die
Ask you to join his church, you'd say he wants your tithes
But know he's offered to accept God's grace, and serve
Till when the dead arise

Parish is a term they used to admire
All the people that would come hoping they would be inspired
I don't know how many years they've thought the church controlled you
I don't know how many priests have wished that they could mold you
I don't know how many kids have grown up who would
Hold onto their dreams till they could
Parish there as much as I've seen him do

And they do parish too
And you will perish too
