The Lyrics

Here's a tribute to the Beach Boys on their 50th Anniversary, using one of my favorite BB songs. The irony is, when I tried to sing this to a Karaoke version of the OS...let's just say I shouldn't quit my day job, either!
Dude, I just heard you singing solo at the
Karaoke bar thing
And though I try,
Well I keep thinking,
This is gonna sound mean

But when I heard your voice
I simply had no choice
But to say: Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
Your voice gave everyone a fright
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job

Ewww

I guess you should've kept your mouth shut
When you bragged that you could really croon
But it's like your back breaks whenever
You try to carry a tune

You think you're quite the ham
You can't sing worth a damn
And I say: Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
'Cause your vocals, they really bite
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job

Ewww

I told you: If you're gonna sing the Beach Boys,
Take along Mike Love with you
And if you think your voice is awesome,
Frankly, something's is quite wrong with you

It is embarrassing
To hear you try to sing
So I say: Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job
Last one out please turn off the lights
Don't quit your day job
Don't quit your day job...

Even if you don't quite your day job, Mike Love might fire you. He's like Mitt Romney: He likes firing people, he's got a massive ego, he thinks it's all about him, and he's full of...

OK Michael, I'll finish the sentence! He's full of...Mitt!

Having been a professional actor in "Hollywood" (Los Angeles in general) as well as having sold a few parodies to a radio producer, this hit home a little to hard. ;-D

LOL funny, from one who's been there, heard that, at least 555 times.

I believe many of us would fit this shoe...When I try to sing in the shower the water turns cold

I couldn't carry a tune in a solid iron basket. (I'd love to duo on stage with Ethan - ha ha). SO really enjoyed this.

Hi Mason, long time! I enjoyed this, and it's a salient reminder for those of us who think they can sing a bit - we probably can't!

Funny how they don't even know they suck. People should have to go through rigorous tests to obtain a public singing licence. The world would be a better place ... Oh, and funny parody too - the perfect vehicle: it takes a singer to sing this.

Thanks Tommy Turtle, AFW, Meriadoc, Peregrin & Liveliver for your kind words. (Sorry I didn't respond sooner--I've fallen out of the habit of checking back after posting a parody on Amiright.) True story: My father, may he rest, was an outstanding Spanish teacher, but he knew his limits. As a special treat for his students, he often would bring a record player (remember those?) and a Spanish record. He promised the class that if they behaved, he'd play the song. If they misbehaved, he'd sing along. Needless to say, after the first infraction, on all subsequent music days, Dad's classes were models of perfect behavior!

Been there, heard that.......Sometimes funny, sometimes excruciatingly painful to listen through...."Last one out please turn off the lights" - good kicker
