The Lyrics

Some folks believe that the curse of Indian chief Tecumseh has killed every U.S. President before the end of their term(s) in office, if they were elected in a year that ended with 0. The first victim of the curse was William Henry Harrison, whose troops killed the Indian chief in 1813. Harrison, elected in 1840, died of pneumonia after serving 31 days in office. Lincoln, elected in 1860, assassinated. Garfield, elected in 1880, assassinated. McKinley, elected to a second term in 1900, assassinated. Harding, elected in 1920, died of a stroke in 1923. Roosevelt, elected to a third term in 1940, died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1945. Kennedy, elected in 1960, assassinated. Reagan, elected in 1980, survived an attempted assassination. Is the curse finally broken?
Well it's been scaring Presidents, you see,
Each twenty years for so long

No one knows why
But some keep thinking
Something's bound to go wrong

Tecumseh's vengeful verse
Became Tecumseh's curse
Known today...

(As "Zero Factor") As "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor") Every twenty years it's a blight
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor"....ooo-ooo....)

I guess the white man should've treated
That ol'Chief Tecumseh not quite so mean

The white man killed that Chief (oh way) back in the year Eighteen-Thirteen

And as Tecumseh died
The curse that Chief applied's
Called today...

(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor") Every twenty years it's a fright
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor"....ooo-ooo....)

(instrumental)

Har-rison 4-oh,
Lincoln 6-oh,
Garfield 8-oh,
And, McKinley, died...

Hard-ing,
And Roosevelt,
And Kennedy,
But Hinkley failed to kill "Rawhide"...

Dubya in Two Thousand
Will he survive or end
Up done-in...

(...by "Zero Factor" ?) ...by "Zero Factor" ?
(The "Zero Factor") Superstition or evil-eye?
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor") Every twenty years it's a blight
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor") Every two decades it's a fright
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"
(The "Zero Factor") Will the Dubya survive all right?
(The "Zero Factor") The "Zero Factor"...........

Honestly this is one of my ALL time favorite songs...ever. I had never heard of the curse before, though...kind of freaky, huh? Nice work, JD! 5s...

Maybe Reagan's curse was worse. And maybe Bush can avoid it if he learns how to pronounce "Nuclear"
John Barry - October 06, 2004 - Report this comment
Maybe this somehow indrectly explains the Red Sox.

I think there is an exception if the President is stupid beyond belief...5's...

No exceptions, Paul. Harding was a freaking moron. If Bush wants to win this, he's gotta do it on merit. And when has he EVER won anything on merit? In other words, when he leaves office due to getting beat by Kerry, he'll have "won" on merit, and gotten off lucky.

Thank you mac, Arwen, Rick D, JB, Alvin, Paul, and Michael.

I think Bush dodged that bullet (curse) when he did not choke to death on the pretzel...

Thanks for the info. I never knew the reason behind the "curse." I hope Bush survives. 5-4-5.

(ABC-Z) I know I read this parody before and I thought I had commented. This is one of my favorite subjects - "Dead Presidents". Here's three sawbucks fresh out of my wallet.

Without the lengthy explanation, this parody makes very little sense. Now someone needs to write a parody about the Lincoln/Kennedy assassination coincidences.

Nice one, Johnny BD. How you matched this concept to this OS is way beyond me, but I guess we can't all have your brain. Also, I was going to make a joke here about GWB being in a persistent vegetative state, but I'm afraid that wouldn't be appropriate.
Johnny D - April 11, 2005 - Report this comment
Thanks, Adagio and Mighty Spaff.
Michael Pacholek - April 12, 2005 - Report this comment
You're right, Spaff, it wouldn't be appropriate. Vegetables might be offended, not to mention you'd be haunted by the ghost of Linda McCartney.
