Song Parodies -> "Trekkies, Get A Life"

Original Song Title:

"With A Little Help From My Friends"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Trekkies, Get A Life"

Parody Written by:

Steve Kalafut

The Lyrics

Dedicated to the proposition that a performance of Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is best followed this song (or respective parodies thereof). Inspired by Bill Shatner's performance in a Saturday Night Live skit. Of course, a major tip of the hat to Johnny D, whose parody of S.P.L.H.C.B. gave me this idea. Also featuring a cameo vocal appearance by James Doohan.
[First, perform Johnny D's parody of
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band,
then continue with.....]

Caaaaaap - tiaaaaan Kiirrrrrrk

First, let me say that I'm not really him
Just an actor is all I can be
My name is Bill and I only play Jim
On the Star Trek show on your TV
Hey, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life

I would be helpless if Klingons attack
(Do you wish they would leave you alone?)
Sense of reality is what you lack
(Did you cross into the Neutral Zone?)
No, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life

(Scotty, please give me phasers)
She ain't got no power, sir
(Or some photon torpedos)
She ain't got no power, sir

(Would you believe in a warp factor nine?)
No, it exists just in Roddenberry's mind
(What is it like to go faster than light?)
I can't tell you, go ask Ei-in-stein
Hey, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life

(Scotty, please give me phasers)
I just can't get no power, sir
(Can you give me deflectors?)
She ain't got no power, sir

Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Oh, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Yes, I just wish you Trekkies all would get a life
Trekkies should all get a liiiiiiiiiife
Now if some other amirighters keep this up, we could have a genuine parody concept album.

Captain Kalafut --- warp 555 --- ENGAGE! Brilliant, Steve, and thanks for the shout-out. I especially got a kick out of your clever syllabic-neologism, "I can't tell you, go ask Ei-in-stein". Great stuff!

P.S. Steve --- the fact that both you and I posted Star Trek-themed parodies of the same Beatles song today just goes to show that WARPed minds acting on IMPULSE think alike!

Thanks, JD. It was merely the LOGICAL follow-up to your SPLHCB parody. Live long and prosper.

But where will I go?
Red Ant - March 06, 2005 - Report this comment
555 for you even though I like ST, this was a well done anti-parody. BTW about the speed of light, tachyons ( though theorhetical ), can do this, as can shadows ( not that anything useful can be done with that ). ST fans do have a life, just shortened to 22 hours a day from watching reruns. :)

Considering that Shatner did his own version of "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds"... no matter what John Lennon said, THAT version had to have been done on LSD.
Red Ant - March 06, 2005 - Report this comment
Agreed Michael. While his acting was probably b-rate, his "singing" ( and I use that word VERY loosely ) is z-rate.

This would be a great SNL skit =)

Jeff - Thanks for the suggestion, but I think Michael and Red Ant have identified a possible transporter malfunction, namely Bill Shatner's "singing". It would required someone who could imitate Shatner's voice, but actually sing, as well as the permission of whoever owns the rights to the Beatles songs these days.
Jeff Reuben - March 07, 2005 - Report this comment
Actually =) Back in the 80s or 90s, Shatner was a guest host on SNL, and they did a skit where he's at a Trekkie Convention. He gets to the podium and tells them to "Get a life!" Then continues to rant about how the guy with the Spock ears has never had a girlfriend, etc. So, I was just being a smart ass, but not so smart (making me a dumbass). He didn't sing though,

It was December '86, and Shatner opened the show in Marine uniform, as a group of leathernecks sang, to the tune of "The Ballad of the Green Berets," of "Ollie North, the Mute Marine." Seems the traitorous Lieutenant Colonel was unwilling to testify in Iran-contra. Six months later, he did, and while he couldn't keep himself from being convicted, he saved his boss' ass. Of course, at the end of the sketch, Shatner-as-North spoke: "Live, from New York, it's... " But the highlight was when Nora Dunn, playing his wife, was getting ready for a party, brushing her hair in a mirror, Shatner walks in and says, "Oh, look at those arms. Look at those shoulders." And he walks right past her to the mirror and says, "Look at that man!" He even went on and on about his rear end: "Honey, look at that butt! That's a tight butt! That's a young butt there!" Soon, Dana Carvey was doing George Michael. I mean, impersonating him.

Steve K, that would not be a transporter malfunction, more like a complete and catastrophic universal voice translater problem. And Michael P., that night I ate bacon and eggs and did get egg on my face, so you are correct.

It's Trek day on Amiright! Cool...555

By the way, Amiright.com must have already invented magnetic containment with parodies as this ( the anti-parody) and the one right above it if they were to collide would probably destroy the entire Internet as we know it.

Came here via the 'Random' feature, Steve, and found this gem! This was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed!
