I've never driven an American car, Al (come on, they've all got the steering wheel on the wrong side!) but I can relate to this ode to battling cheap foriegn imports. 555

DKTOS, but if you're looking for one tough GMC, get a GMC General. It's a tractor-trailer that was made by GMC from 1977-1988. If you want a Chevy instead, Chevy's version was the Bison, but those are harder to find.

Ironically, it's actually more patriotic to buy those cheap imports, since the domestic auto industry's failures are our own friggin' fault and the economy deserves to suffer. Michigan, neck-deep in its unionism, socialism, and red tape, is in recession now just as it deserves. It's just too bad some of my fellow conservatives (my former college roommate, for one) have to live there. To compound that state's stupidity, they recently reacted to the utter failure of their public school systems to educate anyone with... a bill funding free I-pods for the kids! Oh joy! Stupid as it is, that probably is one of the smartest ideas they've had there; if we must have redistribution, they might as well just hand out the goods directly. "Here! Here's two thousand bucks for each of you! Go make a downpayment on a nice American-made car and then default on it after six years when it's a rust bucket."

It would have been nice if I bought a Ford or a Chevy, but the F150's gas consumption drives me nuts - who needs six-liter engines for an SUV when you can do it in a two-liter rig? That's why my dad sticked to Japanese imports like Mitsubishi instead... As for Kristof, in the Philippines, it's common for us for used right-hand drive cars to end up sold in my home country (since those were considered junk in Japan), and then the mechanics do some conversion work to make them left-hand drive... 555 for your song...

Great song, although a lot of "Japanese cars" are now made here, and a lot of "American cars" are made in Canada and Mexico. In fact, with Ford owning Mazda, and Chrysler and Mercedes having teamed up (though I hear that's now about to end), there's really just "cars" now. Which must really upset the Ku Klux Klan. Speaking of which, "Free Marketeer," Michigan is not socialist. In fact, if not for Detroit, Michigan would practically be a red(neck) State, witness your boy Ted Nugent. The State is still suffering from 12 years of Fatso John Engler's patronage-addicted Governorship. Yes, Michigan is in a recession. So are the other 49 States! As they always are when a Bush runs an economy!

The ideal solution to guilt: Buy a foreign car sold by an American company. My Geo is essentially a discounted Toyota and was built in California, but it's a good car. Either way, the '89 Plymouth Voyager my Mom once had was in the shop every other week for a while, but her current '02 Mercury Sable is highly improved.

That's one of the wonderful benefits of the GMC General/Chevy Bison: It's a true American-made rig, and not a questionable import with an American name slapped on (Nothing against imported cars, though)

Yeah, right! The fact is, if Detroit were to be vaporized tomorrow, school test score averages would rise, the state economy would improve, and that socialist parasite Granholm would be in jail for her fiduciary misconduct. Detroit and Ann Arbor, like Camden, New Jersey, are crime-riddled concrete wastelands filled with far left Dem-voting criminal punks like Michael Pacholek who want to plunge us all into the same poverty and misery they've inflicted on themselves. Fortunately, my roommate's living in that "flyover" part of Michigan so at least he doesn't have to put up with those losers. The very unions morons like Pacholek admire are the reason why Michigan's whole vehicle industry is going down the tubes. I just wish clever and decent people like Ted Nugent didn't have to suffer Michigan's richly deserved losses along with all the lying, thieving mob-owned union extortionists like Granholm's cronies.

For Detroit iron, you cannot beat the 1978 Dodge Magnum and the 1952-55 Kaiser Manhattan! Only thing is, if you break any of the curved glass on the Kaiser, you might as well buy a Prius with the money from the glass and seling the Kaiser for parts. They haven't made those windows in over 30 years. Both cars are so big and solid that anything short of being dropped from an airplane or being hit by a train will result in far less injury than if you were in something like a Kia or a Prius.
