The Lyrics

A tribute of sort to my nieces and nephew. The OS lyrics online contain one more bridge and chorus than the Beatles' videos that I found on YouTube. Oh well.
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!

And when the street kids tell me that I’m posing,
Say I’m posing,
And “Keep it real!”,
I say it’s real for me, and I’m not posing,
I’m not posing,
I don’t conceal.

Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!

How I love my thesaurus,
Read my atlas on the run.
I can spell “encyclopedia”,
And my dictionary’s fun!

Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!

Nobody’s ever gonna call me dummy.
I’m no dummy,
‘Cause dumb ain’t good.
No one will catch me acting like a dummy,
Like a dummy,
‘Cause dumb ain’t good.

Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!

You can call me “articulate”
When I earn my first degree.
Not ashamed to be articulate.
What did you expect from me?

Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!
Don’t dumb me down!

Hey Melanie Lee, have you considered joining the AmIRight Parodist Idol competition, it would increase your feedback and you don't have to do any voting or anything yourself, just your hobby. If you are interested join at. . . inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=32272.0 I promise it won't "Dumb You Down" :) 555

BA Dave: Thanks, but I have too many parodies to enter the contest.

After reading this I really feel dumb 'cause I can't spell inpsyklopedia, but I can spell FIVE. Nothing dumb about this one. Top notch, Melanie.

I was afraid people may misunderstand the rules, Melanie, you qualify because you've never won SOTM or POTM, that was one of four qualifying factors, you only have to meet one to enter, so you do qualify ;)

Thanks for the correction, Dave! I've just joined the In The 00s message board. Now I have to select a parody. Hmm...I think it's between "Love Client No. 9" and "Yankees Got Run Over by the Red Sox". What do you recommend?

(ABC5D)

Melanie, I still can't spell inpsyklopedia but this parody is still very good.

(ABC) Not a dumb parody at all, but...the format of the OS (its repeating lines, specifically ) doesn't allow much room for great gag lines, does it?
Matthias - April 20, 2009 - Report this comment
This is a pretty good parody, but I agree with Aggy on that the repeating lines didn't give you very much room to work in a bunch of jokes. It wasn't bad though.

I have to concur with the last two commenters about the limitations of the original, but I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments here. No hilarious lines or anything, but still a good solid work; I also really like the "How I love my thesaurus" line as a sub for "I'm in love for the first time".

(ABC-D) Good. I liked it.

I thought you really maxed what this OS gave you to work with Mel, you are a great writer, glad to see you in competition regularly, keep entering, and keep having fun!

(ABC) wonderful, brave, defiant sentiments Melanie and I totally concur - it's not THAT hard to learn a few grammatical rules and of course if you're unsure about anything you can always ask Tommy Turtle - besides, along with good manners, good grammar/spelling/punctuation just makes the world a sweeter place - lovely stuff - 555

(ABC4) I'm a little unsure as to what the parody was about. Also, there wasn't a whole lot to work with (Beatles songs are like that). Maybe with a more verbose song the topic would've been a little bit clearer? Ah, well.
Jeff Reuben - May 01, 2009 - Report this comment
(ABC) A good well paced song. I took it as a song saying "Don't treat me like I'm stupid". Not lol funny, but well written.

I agree with all of the above. This was good though; I'd love to see the same parody title set to ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down".
