The Lyrics

OS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJw26jJd3-Q OS lyrics: http://www.beatleslyricsarchive.com/viewSong.php?songID=84
It’s the Word that won’t agree
With the Word 2003.
It’s the Word that’s overdriven:
MS Word 2007!
It’s refined:
A land mine!
MS Word Seven!

The older systems, those I understood,
Now comes 07; the change ain’t good!

It’s the Word that’s spanking new!
It’s the Word…I have no clue!
This new Word: the changes of
MS Word, I do not love!
It’s so blind!
It’s unkind!
MS Word Seven!

Every new console has been reboot
With the tabs and the buttons I can’t compute!

It’s the Word they’ve up and changed!
It’s the Word they’ve re-arranged!
Where’s the word count? Where’s spell check?
This new Word screws up my text!
The old sets,
They won’t fit
MS Word Seven!

Planned obsolescence! Bill Gates is so sly.
This new MS everybody must buy!

“For this Word you’ll have to pay!
This new Word’s a better way!
This new Word has brand-new stuff,
And the old Word’s not enough!
It’s so fine!
A gold mine!
MS Word Seven!”

MS Word—rough!
MS Word—rough!
MS Word—rough!
MS Wo-o-o-ord—tough!

Totally agree with the sentiment. The Ribbon as implemented in the new Office 2007 superset of Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access claims to be an approach to making applications easier to work with. Which people? I have not a clue! I detest Office 2007 and do not plan on upgrading Office until Microsoft realizes their ghastly mistake. Not a single person I have seen use it (over the past two years) has appreciated this divergence of usability. What I can say is that behind the scenes, the documents are more compatible with things than ever before, probably why Word 2003 and Word 2007 won't talk to each other. I could explain why, as well as how I was exposed to this version of Office a year before its release... but lets just leave it at stating the new Word format is really a compressed Zip file with XML in it. It really does explain a lot, doesn't it?

Like Tim, I completely agree that the ribbon is a huge step backwards in usability.. I completely agree, too. And congrats on finding a new rhyme for "seven" :-)

Urgh, I must take back my statement that I have not found anyone who has appreciated the Ribbon. One of my current coworkers (an Apple fan, the poor soul) said he liked it once he got used to it.
