The Lyrics

Ode to sleep apnea. It’s always nice to be close to someone at night. However, one of the disadvantages of being married and having to share the same bed is when you sleep, distractions occur if your spouse happens to snore so loudly. Adding insult to injury, the "snorer" actually feels so energetic and perky when they wake up in the morning, leaving the "sleeper" feeling exhausted and cranky. According to MayoClinic.com, loud and frequent snoring can be more than just a nuisance to your partner. Snoring may indicate a serious health condition, and it can disrupt your household.
Hardly slept a wink at night
(On the night he snored)
Can’t get no shuteye
(On the night he snored)
As he growls and grinds
I’d go out my mind
Felt so cranky from that night he snored

Kept me half the night
(From the night he snored)
‘Bout to pick a fight
(On the night he snored)

Every night I fear
When I sleep so near
Tossed and turned each side
The night he snored

Last night was a night that made
My worst temper rise
With those gurgling sound he makes
I feel like I could die

Can’t sleep if I tried
(On the night he snored)
Bloodshot in my eyes
(On the night he snored)
When I’m on my bed
Pillows on my head
Tried to block those sounds
The night he snored

(Groans): OHHHH!!

(Instrumental Solo)

When I sleep I’d hear
Ringing in my ears
Eardrums shattered from that night he snored

Last night was a night
That caused a twitch in my eyes
That abrasive noise he makes
Sounds like gorilla’s cry

Feeling so uptight
(From that night he snored)
Wishing for daylight
(On the night he snored)
I felt throbbing pain
Now I got migraines
Raucous sound he made the night he snored…
Louder than a boar
NOTE: I am not married. The husband in the song is entirely fictional. I was actually singing from a wife's POV.

I've got a lot of family members with sleep apnea. This song puts a great humorous perspective on the disorder, and I'll have to give you 5s.
Timmy1000 - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Well written. I've been on both sides - snorer and listener and it can be tiring.
Christie Marie M - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks to Andria and Timmy1K! :)..Andria, I've also got family members with sleep apnea as well. I must say, my dad snores the loudest and I feel bad for my mom sharing the bed with him. She had to physically turn him to the other side when he snores....Timmy, great explanation between snorer and listener/sleeper! Even women I know tend to snore sometimes!

Very well done, Christie! Snorings some zzzzz'z and fives at you...

Thanks, Mark! :)...LOL at your comment! Glad you enjoyed! Security code: GRR!! LOL!

It's a good thing I don't snore at night. Maybe that guy needs some of those lubricant strips I've seen on TV... 555 of 'em! Great as usual.

Thanks, DJ! :)...That's nice to hear. I don't snore at night either. I've seen those Breathe Right strips on TV as well! My dad and bro uses them. Now they both lost weight recently so they don't snore as much like they used to.
2Eagle - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Funny use of the OS. I'm glad breathing strips helped some people.
Christie Marie M - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks, 2Eagle! :)...Yep, breathing strips does help people. As I've mentioned, my dad and bro are the loudest snorers so they use breathing strips before going to bed. Some people I know (like my dad) don't realize that they snore so loud at night because they are sound asleep and/or they're in "dreamland". Other remedies to reduce snoring is to lose weight, abstain from too much alcohol, sleep on your side, and opt for surgery if it's a serious health disorder.
Tommy Snortle - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
I'd heard that actually, sleepers with apnea are *not* refreshed, 'cuz of the frequent mini-awakenings. But whatever, I liked this and vote ........

(sorry, drifted off there for a minute) 555

Thanks, Tommy Snortle (Turtle)! :)...That is so true! LOL at your comment! Snoring is sometimes considered a health disorder as I've mentioned. From what I've read in your comment from your "Laura" parody, I've been out for a few days because I was sick. Oh, and I've graduated from college a few years ago.
FiddleYawn - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
3 very empathetic 5s! (Thank heaven for the guest room...!) :)
Guy - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Christie - I'm not sure if I snore or not - I've never quite been able to stay awake while I sleep at night to find out. And why is it that the snorer never wakes up from all the racket that they are making?

Back in the days when the local movie theater showed double features on the wekends for about 50 cents complete with previews of coming attractions, if this parody were part of a weekend theater outing it would be called "selected snort subjects". =;-) Nice write, but I had to youtube it for a listen to the OS. I barely remember this Beatles song and I thought I knew them all. Glad that I did - you wrote this extremely well.

"And why is it that the snorer never wakes up from all the racket that they are making?"

Actually, my husband sometimes does. But to be fair, it could be because I'm pummeling him with pillows... ;)

"For the same reasons that one's farts always smell sweet to oneself".
Christie Marie M - August 13, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks to FiddleYawn(Fiddlegirl) and Guy! :)...Fiddlegirl, your empathy is always appreciated. Oh, I would think about sleeping in the guest room for the night if I had a husband who snores....Guy, about the fact that the snorer never wakes up from all the racket they're making, I keep asking myself that same question and wondering. Yeah, my dad doesn't notice that he's snoring either when he sleeps. If I do snore in my sleep, I wish people would wake me up because I don't like snoring! LOL on "selected snort subjects!" Maybe someday they'll include it as part of the weekend theater outing. This OS is one of my fave Beatles songs! Glad you enjoyed.
@ Fart Simpson - August 14, 2009 - Report this comment
Must be a "guy" thing... to me, the blast is often akin to a Tommy Gunn. ;)
Andy Primus - August 14, 2009 - Report this comment
If ear plugs don't work try a plastic bag. Just pop it over the head of the offender (making sure to tie that open end tight) and hey presto! The snoring will stop in a minute or two. Tip - you might need a few helpers to hold the arms and legs so have them on hand before you start the procedure.
Christie Marie M - August 14, 2009 - Report this comment
Thanks, Andy! :)....I must say, that's not a bad idea! The offender would suffocate....exactly. At least we don't have to hear him snore anymore!.....I have an announcement to make: I came across this vid on YouTube titled "Snoring Very Funny Commercial"! The guy in the vid snores very loud! When we think about it, he's definitely the one who either needs 555 lubricant strips and/or a plastic bag treatment to stop his raucous snoring! Are we talking about the Rocky character or the porn star? .... and if you think my Tommy Gunn is something, you should try my Peter Gunn!

My girlfriend doesn't believe me when I tell her she snores sometimes...oh well. Nice job fitting the OS and telling a pretty funny story, Nice work!
Christie Marie M - June 19, 2011 - Report this comment
Thanks lots, Abbott! :)...Yes, there are some girls who do snore. I don't know myself if I snore or not, even if I can't hear myself snore. If I do, I would want someone to wake me up so I don't snore. All aside, I'm glad you enjoyed this!

(ABC) Snoring is a major issue that is afflicting our society today! Snoring has gotta stop! Nasal strips, and nasal strips alone shall set us free! God bless AMERICA! JK! Great job here. LOL!

(ABC5) Kinda simple parody, but still pretty good. I'm reminded of an Ed Byrne quote about his girlfriend snoring: "Do I not sound like a kitten purring? No, you sound like a cat drowning in porridge." 555 earplugs for you!
Below Average Dave - June 24, 2011 - Report this comment
Not bad CMM, I think personally that this song left little to work with, but it paced well, and I suppose its part of a bigger project so those are always tough to judge individually

Oops sorry, misread your opening comment, wow I'm tired ain't I. . .take back the last half of my previous comment. . .I don't know why I thought this was part of a bigger project. . .how would someone write a project about Sleep Apnea, actually thinking about it--that'd probably be pretty funny
Matthias - June 25, 2011 - Report this comment
I would like to see the bigger project that Dave was concocting in his mind because an entire project about sleep would be kind of interesting. This was a very well done parody that didn't put me to sleep.
Christie Marie M - June 25, 2011 - Report this comment
Thanks lots, youse guys!! :)

Blaydeman - That's very true. Snoring is a bad habit, but others who do it can't help themselves sometimes. Nasal strips are the best cure.

Mark - ZZZZZZZZ'sss was a great shout out from you for a long time...or should I say snore out!!

D-Mon - Glad u didn't catch any zzzz's...but you sure caught lots of laughs!

bobpie/T-COP - Dug your Ed Byrne quote, and yes, a simple parody indeed, one of the easiest I ever wrote.

BA Dave - That's OK. Your comments a pretty cool! I enjoyed them. A bigger project? Hmmm... I never thought of it that way. I've also been tired, and busy, and lazy lately.

Matt - Maybe you could see Dave's bigger project one of these days. Glad you both found sleep apnea interesting. What drove me to write this parody was because the thought of snoring humor came to me and I was also surprised that no one (except John A. Barry, sort of) never thought came up with this title of the parody or the idea of snoring humor. I just thought those titles were quite rings to each other.
