The Lyrics

The Washington Redskins are receiving more pressure to change the team's name, but owner Daniel Synder says that he will NEVER change it. Fan response is 73% in favor despite heavy opposition from Native American groups and even Congress. "Redskin" is a racial slur meant to demean Native Americans much like the N-word for African-Americans, and the W-word for Latinos. The fans see it as an adored aggressive image and don't want to change their colors either.
Team owner says slur stays
Nostalgic view, yeah
Redskins fans want their way
Racist term used a long time
Appears that it will stay
A name change overdue

Nah
Nah
Nah
It’s wrong
It’s wrong

Yes, it’s the 21st century
Yes, promotes negative imagery
No, Synder won’t give in any day

Team fears interference (Slur stays)
Won’t give new name a chance (Slur stays)
They like their appearance (Slur stays)
Braves on the warpath, yeah

So,
It’s wrong… (so what?)

Indians hate reference (Slur stays)
Marshall was a racist* (Slur stays)
Yet no repentance (Slur stays)
No chance, slur stands

Team owner says slur stays
Nostalgic view, yeah
Redskins fans want their way
Racist term used a long time
Appears that it will stay
A name change overdue

[Indian image still cartooned]
*First owner George Preston Marshall was an avowed racist and his wife wrote the lyrics to the original Redskins fight song: “Braves on the warpath, fight for Old Dixie! Scalp ‘em, swamp ‘em, we will take ‘em big score.” The fight song has been changed but not the name of the team. Current owner Dan Synder under pressure from Native Amerocans and even 10 Congressmen from D.C. says, “We’ll never change the name. NEVER- you can use caps.”

Let's organize all the opponents into a team and call them "The Thinskins". Of course, I suppose that could have other connotations as well. Some do-gooder bunch wanted a high school team in Michigan to stop calling themselves "The Huron Chieftans". The real chiefs of the Huron/Wyandotte Nations of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Quebec said that the name was quite fine by them.
