The Lyrics

Imagine that Paul McCartney sang the lyrics to Elton John's "Saturday...". Near the end of the song, you need to remember the famous saying by Oscar Wilde, "Work is the curse of the drinking classes."
Getting late
Wanna little action on my plate
Ma, your discipline just aggravates
I want to rock; where are my mates?

Sis looks cute
Hair all greased up, in her dancing-boots
Seven bells, my old man’s really juiced,
That monkey; Ma don’t give a hoot.

Saturday
It’s alright for fightin’; play that game!
I’ll be oiled as a diesel train
A beer-filled belly; why refrain?

Set this dance alight
It’s alright; we’re gonna fight.
I’ll do something wrong,
Then be strong to set things right!

Stubbornly
I’ll use muscle to get what I need
Find some dolly hanging over me,
From shadows shout out, “She’s with me!”

Party night
It’s a night whose sounds I really like
Like a switchblade and a motorbike
Wilde’s ‘drinking class’ – I’m its wild tyke.

Saturday’s the night I like!
Mm mm, mm mm, mm mm-mm.

(To the Elton John tune)
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday
Saturday, Saturday, Saturday night’s alright.

Mm mm, mm mm, mm mm-mm.

Al Silver's Granddaughter - March 11, 2015 - Report this comment
Grandpa knows "Yesterday," but not the Elton John song. He's hopeless! About drinking, he subscribes to Oscar's opinion that "I can resist anything but temptation." Before he fell asleep in a stupor, I sang "Saturday..." to him in my Conservatory voice. He said, "The parody is the bee's knees. You twenty-three skidoo now and give the kid straight 5s." So, uh, how old are you? What are you doing Saturday night?

Now I see you've been 1-bombed. A clear case of guilt by association.

I've heard "Saturday Night's All Right" but don't really know it. Still, the parody of "Yesterday" stands on its own as a celebration of drinking and riotous behaviour. If it's a "smoosh" from another song, so much the better. That's the sort of effort we need around here.

@Al-Silver's-Granddaughter /Silver's kin; /We could date though we’re both pseudonyms, /Age and schedule at our humans’ whim - /Let’s meet and party at the gym!/ @Patrick /“Smoosh” must be /Common variant on parody /Lyrics from song B, A’s melody? /A “contrafactum” classically. /(Check the list - I've written three).

Great concept, and nicely executed. 555. What's with all the scoring haters lately?
