The Lyrics

Sometimes I wonder that behind that big goofy drooling grin of his, Odie is actually repressing all the memories of all the times Garfield's kicked him off the table, or jumped on him, or framed him for something he did. And the traumatization from Lyman running off probably doesn't help much. I wonder how long it'll take for Odie to snap? So anyway, here is "Odie the Puppy", sung to the tune of "Eleanor Rigby". Try to imagine Garfield playing along to the strings on his own violin.
Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Odie the puppy tries to repress
All the memories of hurt and mistreat
But feels defeat
His only friend is his old pal, Garfield
Who won't be a friend to him back
He'd rather snack

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Lyman, the former owner of Odie
Is lonely as well and decides
That he will fly
Back to America to visit his dog
Maybe take him back home with him too
If only he knew

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

Ah, look at all the lonely people
Ah, look at all the lonely people

Odie the puppy chokes back the tears
As he cuts his own throat, and then dies
No one knew why
Lyman walks in a few minutes later
And finds his dog lying there, dead
Neck bleeding red

All the lonely people, where do they all come from?
All the lonely people, where do they all belong?

This has a few big issues. The first is that the chorus's don't make sense given the songs context. What do lonely people have to do with Odie? Second the verses don't have the same cadence as the original. The biggest flaw though is that not only is the Lyman origin story an obscure one (I doubt many have seen or remember the original comics featuring Lyman or remember the retconned origin episode of the series) the end is pretty grimdark. Why would Odie kill himself? He's never at any point in the comics, books or series seemed depressed to the point of killing himself. This is more edginess than parody.

@Zidders "What do lonely people have to do with Odie?" Well, he and Lyman are both lonely. They miss each other. It's made worse for Odie, because even though he has one friend, Garfield, he's always abusive to him and taunts him on a daily basis; he's rarely kind to Odie, even less so in recent years. I've always thought of Odie as a deeply troubled individual. Lyman leaving him back in 1983 made him very upset, but he tried his best to suck it up and go on with life. Back in the 80s and 90s, Garfield actually kind of liked Odie, and they were best buds, which partially filled the hole in Odie's heart. However, in recent years, they seem to have drifted apart again. The last few strips that I saw featuring Odie had him being punted off the table while he was just trying to play superhero, or Garfield getting angry at him for getting emotional during a movie. Each day, it gets harder and harder for Odie to repress the sadness and stay in character. And if the abuse keeps up, he'll start missing Lyman, his old owner that he tried to forget about all these years. Then he will be truly miserable. You know how a soda bottle pops open when it gets shaken for too long because of all the pressure that keeps building up, but is forced to be contained inside the bottle? Odie will pop too eventually, becoming a shell of his former self. He will no longer be the bouncing, drooling dog he once was. Instead he will be an emotional wreck, refusing to play or do anything, and justifying his suicide.
