The Lyrics

Mad Magazine has been around since 1952, but is moving from NY to California under new leadership. Issue #550 was supposed to the last until a new reboot in April, but Issue #551 comes out next week before new Issue #1 hit stands on April 18th. I hope the changes are not bad and the price stays the same.
Alfred, Alfred E... New?
MAD, what happened to you?
Since 1952
Usual Gang of Idiots drew
Drew parodies so cool...

Alfred, Alfred E... New?
NY to Burbank move
Still, I'll always be true
Loyal collector of you
Up to #551 issue...

Spy vs Spy
TV and movie spoofs
The Lighter Side
And all the cartoon goofs

Alfred, Alfred E... New?
MAD, what happened to you?
Since 1952
Usual Gang of Idiots drew
Drew parodies so cool...

Alfred, Alfred E... New?
NY to Burbank move
Still, I'll always be true
Loyal collector of you
Up to #551 issue...

Will the end fold still be in you???
Or will new issue #1 be your doom???

We'll see April 18th

Is perhaps #551 announced for April 01? ;-)

Are they getting rid of MAD magazine? I didn’t hear about this?! I’ve been a collector since my high school days! Loved the issue that Weird Al worked on

The back cover of this "Final Issue" is stating that they are reissuing MAD in some new way and to stay tuned to "Issue #1". Hmm, maybe they will become more like what Cracked (their major competitor back in the day) has now evolved into as a humorous pop culture news brand rather than a cartoonish satire publication. Remains to be seen. It is rather off-putting to me that it's published now on slick paper and accepts advertising.

No Peter, Issue #551 is slated for release March 27th. New Issue #1 is slated for April 18th. The ad for this news was on the back of Issue #550 (I've collected since 1973). I too am shocked at both the price hike (from $3.99 CHEAP to $5.99 CHEAP) and the gloss pages with advertising. I also miss some of my favorite contents from the '90s-2000s: Monroe, Melvin & Jenkins, Duke Bissell, Fantabula Man, and more. I hope it isn't lame, filled with ads, and thicker to jump the price. Issue #1 is still $5.99 AFAIK via DC news.

Any official reason given for the move from the East coast to the California? And will it be in Spanish now? ;-)
