The Lyrics

I. WORK TOGETHER/COME TOGETHER

[GENESIS CHAPTER 12]
Good morning, Abram, Happy 75th birthday
Need you to leave Haran, the one place you have lived in
Never mind where I send ye
Ye got to obey me, not just do as you please

Abram got ready, he got wife and nephew
They packed all their suitcase, they wound up in Egypt
Pharoah say, "Your sis: a hottie.”
Sarai say, “You touch me – Egypt get a disease.”

Work together, ‘cause we’re
Family.

[GENESIS CHAPTER 15]
A few years later, Guess the famine’s over
Abram’s returned to Canaan, he is pushing 90
God say “Sarai will birth with glee.
Your seed will outnumber all the stars you can sees.”

Work together, ‘cause we’re
Family.

Word!

Work, work, work, work...

[GENESIS CHAPTERS 16, 21]
He now one hundred, and his wife is 90
They still had no children, ‘xcept for when they cheated
She say, "One and one and one is three"
You and me and Isaac Tell my handmaid to flee.

Work together, ‘cause we’re
Family.
Ugh!

[GENESIS CHAPTER 17]
God renamed them, yeah
Sarai: Sarah, yeah
Abram: Abraham
Work together, yeah
God renamed them, yeah
Sarai: Sarah, yeah
Abram: Abraham
Agh!
God renamed them, yeah
Abram: Abraham
Sarai: Sarah.

II. THE BALLAD OF ISAAC /SOMETHING

[GENESIS CHAPTER 22]
Isaac’s act seems so subdued
Impresses me as a phlegmatic.
Maybe I have misconstrued.
He laid still for Abraham
Before God fulfilled the lamb.

[GENESIS CHAPTER 24]
Didn’t want to find a mate
But Sarah’s dead three years, he’s lonely.
Age 40’s late for most first dates.
But add to this garden party
His wingman’s one hundred forty

They hit it off right from the first
I know, I know, I know
Rebecca loved him best or worst
I know, I know, I know

[GENESIS CHAPTERS 25-35]
Esau, Jacob came along
Frankly, that created chaos
Personalities so strong
You know things did not get fixed
When Laban got thrown into the mix

III. THE BALLAD OF THE BLESSING/MAXWELL'S SILVER HAMMER

[GENESIS CHAPTER 25]
Jacob and Esau, twins by blood, but foes in law
Struggled from their birth
Esau had the girth to steal Jacob’s bles-es-ss-ing
Jacob, second string, not conceding anything
Grabbing Esau’s heel
“I’m not letting go ‘til we strike a de-ee-ea-al.”
This debate has not gone away
For near four thousand years...
Bang, bang, Jacob (the “supplanter”)
Warned Esau of attack
Jacob (the “supplanter”) told him
“I want my blessing back.”

[GENESIS CHAPTER 25]
Some time in their youth, Jacob’s cooking lentil stew-th
Esau’s out to hunt.
Famished: to be blunt, he’s about to di-i-i-e
Jacob saw his need switched to mode of greed
Charged him for the stew
What now does ensue "Birthright goes to me-e-e-e"
But Esau said the price sounded fair
What good’s a birthright dead?
Bang, bang, Jacob (the “supplanter”)
Warned Esau of attack
Jacob (the “supplanter”) told him
“I want my blessing back.”

[GENESIS CHAPTER 27]
Jacob and Esau knew Dad knew not what he saw
Jacob had a plan
When Esau’s out can I pretend I’m he-e-e-e.
Mom got wind of it, even helped him out a bit
“So Dad will bless me.”
Isaac did accede though something seemed o-o-o-off
But when Esau had figured it out
Jacob had to flee.
Bang, bang, Jacob (the “supplanter”)
Warned Esau of attack
Jacob (the “supplanter”) told him
“I got my blessing back.”

[GENESIS CHAPTER 31]
Chapter 31: Laban was the dirty one
Though he thinks he’s not.
Cheating Jacob, holding back wages ohh-oh-oh-oh
Streaked or speckled cows? I believe that Laban choused
Jacob worked for free
Some scholars disagree and they tell me so-o-o-oo
Agreeing on a malediction
They part company
Bang, bang, Jacob (the “supplanter”)
Warned Laban of attack
Jacob (the “supplanter”) told him
“Believe me, Laban, you’re glad I’m going back.”

IV. OH! MOSES!/ OH DARLING

[EXODUS CHAPTERS 1-2]
Oh! Moses, Egypt knows it
You were a baby with charm
Oh It is not disputed
You were a baby with charm

Oh! Moses, You were rescued
When all of your peers would have drowned
Oh It is not disputed
All of your peers would have drowned

On your birth date Pharoah tossed boys into the Nile
But your mother chose to hide you instead
Dressing a boy in girly clothes isn’t our style
Basket-boat sent you to Pharoah ahead

Oh! Moses, You were rescued
When all of your peers would have drowned
Oh It is not disputed
You were a baby with charm.

Pharoah’s daughter found him aflo-oat in the Nile,
And she thought there goes a baby with charm
She took him out, out of the waters, what a child
Well you know she nearly broke down and cried

Oh! Moses, You were rescued
Miriam got your mom hired to nurse you, [spoken] and then helped Pharoah’s daughter adopt you.
Oh It is not disputed
All of your peers would have drowned

V. HEBREWS IN SLAVERY/OCTOPUS'S GARDEN

[EXODUS CHAPTERS 4-6]
[Slave in Egypt]: Don’t wanna be in slavery
For Egyptian mausolea to their King
He'd torture us, throw fits and cuss
All ‘cause “Let my people go” was Moses’ sling

I’d ask the union to expel
Moses, ‘cause he won’t keep thoughts to himself.
Unions they don’t, indeed they won’t
Exist until AD 1866.

[Moses to God}: I'm not your man. Find one who can.
‘Cause my articulate brother has a plan.
[God]: Who made man’s lungs? Who made man’s tongue?
You will say the things I want, have faith in me.

You can hem and haw, be vague
If they don’t heed you, watch for plagues.
[EXODUS CHAPTERS 6-7]
[Narrator]: Moses returned, Aaron performed
The water in the river turned to blood.

[EXODUS CHAPTERS 10-12]
That was Plague 1; but God’s not done
The plagues intensify from one through ten
Moses had warned – seder-adorned –
To mark their doorposts with blood from lamb event.

Plague Ten’s last, but man, it’s gonna happen fast
God’s striking down the first-born of each clan
Unless He sees the blood IDs
Of the flawless sacrifice of God’s lamb
Of the flawless sacrifice of God’s lamb
Of the flawless sacrifice of God’s lamb

VI I WANT JEWS/I WANT YOU (SHE'S SO HEAVY)

[EXODUS CHAPTER 12]
[PHAROAH]: I want Jews
I want Jews to leave
I want Jews
I want Jews to leave
From Egypt they’re mad
From Egypt they’re mad

[EXODUS CHAPTER 13]
I want Jews
I want Jews to come back
I want Jews
I want Jews returned
I wanted them gone
But I want them back

[EXODUS CHAPTER 14]
I want Jews
I want Jews to come back
They’re hemmed in
They’re totally trapped
They’ll drown in the sea
Or face our attack

[EXODUS CHAPTERS 16-19]
[GOD]: I want Jews
I want Jews alive
The Red Sea
I will subdivide
The Jews will be safe
Then it’s off to Sinai

[MOSES]: God’s so holy
Holy, holy, holy

God’s so holy
God’s so holy
Holy, holy, holy

[GOD]: I want Jews
To be holy too
I want Jews
To be holy too
I’ll send them the Law
But no man achieves

You need grace
You need forgiveness from trespass
Sacrifice
Today the lamb sacrifice
I’m sending my Son
Ever Lamb from God
Yeah

Holy

VII. HERE COMES THE LAW/HERE COMES THE SUN

[EXODUS CHAPTERS 20-40; LEVITICUS CHAPTERS 1-27; NUMBERS CHAPTERS 1-10]
Here comes the law, here comes the law
and I say God is good

God is holy, your heart is wicked; you can’t help it
I will tell you how holiness it does appear
Here comes the law, here comes the law
and I say God is good

If you try to fulfill the law yourself: disaster
All have sinned. Therefore, you fall short of glory’s call
Here comes the law, here comes the law
and I say God is good

Son, Son, Son, He will come...
Son, Son, Son, Holy Son...
Son, Son, Son trust the Son...
Son, Son, Son, He’ll forgive...
Son, Son, Son, all you’ve done...

Whosoever believes in Jesus will not perish
Will not perish but ‘ternal life will be his gain
It’s up to you, it’s up to you
But I say Trust in God
Not yourself

VIII B EDCAUSE THE FIRE BURNED/BECAUSE

[NUMBERS CHAPTER 11]
Because the fire burned, Moses prayed
Because the fire burned...aaaaaahhhhhh

Because they tired of manna, God gave them quail.
Because they tired of manna......aaaaaaaahhhh

God is love, Never greed
God is all, that you need.

Because Moses was blue, God called el-DERS
Because Moses was blue.......aaaaaaaahhhh

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh....

IX YOU’RE ONLY HAPPY/YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY
[NUMBERS CHAPTERS 12-14]
You’re always fussing at God’s plan
You’re only happy with food and pleasure
And when you’re asked to bear some inconvenience
You break down.

Sometimes I say what God tells me
Sometimes I don’t understand it either
But when He parted the Red Sea before us
I trust Him

Out of Egypt, free at last
God provides for all we asked
We don’t even know which way to go
We have wondered for two years
No one’s wearing shoes with tears
Cloud and fire lead which way to go
By night we follow fi-re, which way to go
Day, it’s clouds we follow, which way to go
Which way to go

We’re close now
Pick out twelve men to go in ahead of us
Ten came back with dread and fear
There are giants, we will not overcome
Joshua and Caleb too
They did object
God can defeat (the giants)

If you want your life kept straight
Enter through the narrow gate

X SON-KING/SUN KING

[EXODUS CHAPTER 17 & NUMBERS CHAPTER 20]
Here comes the Son-King
Here comes the Son-King
Jesus is the Son.
Jesus is the King
Jesus is the Rock

Moses needed water for the crowd was getting rowdy
God told Moses “Strike the rock” and water flowed abundantly
Forty years later, God told Moses “Talk to the rock.” But he struck it

XI MEAN KING OF ARAD/MEAN MR. MUSTARD

[NUMBERS CHAPTER 21]
Mean King of Arad snipes Israel
Israel destroyed all the towns of his Kingdom
Moses was close to the land.
Needed a nation to grant him an easement
Edom would not let them go through
Moses didn’t ask
Edom’s Esau’s brood

After Edom Moab was next
Now Moab’s towns could each grant assent
All of Moab said “No consent.”
Moses could not find one relent
So to battle Israel went
Israel now controlled
Amorite land

XII THE TALKING DONKEY/POLYTHENE PAM

[NUMBERS CHAPTERS 22-26]
Well, the King of Moab got scared
Hired him a prophet just to see if he dared
If he would pronounce a curse. God said “You do that and worse
Will come to you. Not like you cared”
No no no

Well the prophet Bala-am that was his name
A donkey that could see an angel exclaim
[DONKEY]: “Why’d you beat me three times?” “
[BALAAM]: ”Cause you alone saw the signs
That God did not want me as part of the King’s game.”
No no no.

XIII SHE LET THM OUT THE CHAMBER WINDOW/SHE CAME IN THROUGH THE BATHROOM WINDOW

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 2]
She let them out the chamber window
Protected by a crimson thread
‘Cause Rahab knew the gates of Jericho
Would be heavily so guarded

Do you know the tale of Rahab
David’s great, great grand mama?
One day she’s a Canaanite hooker
Her faith made her a Dama.

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 3]
They came across the Jordan River
The same as they crossed the Red Sea
The Priests’ first foot into the river
Jordan parted, a dry path indeed

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 6]
And so the city went to lockdown
And Israel donned their battle garbs
The weapons they will use confuse me
No cannons, no slingshots but TRUMPETS

Now I did not see the battle
So by faith I do believe
The city walls of Jerico on lockdown,
Collapsed and fell down inwardly.
Oh yeah.

XIV GOLD AND SILVER /GOLDEN SLUMBERS

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 7]
Canaan was a land of milk and honey.
Canaan was a land of dreadful sin
God promised land as Abraham’s right
And He will strengthen Isr’el’s plight

Gold and silver catch your eye
Achan found out in A-i
God promised land as Abraham’s right
But He’ll insist you do it right.

Isr’el lost the battle in Ai badly
Achan stole some bounty God wanted burned
They stoned him for his daring lie
His house will sing no lullabye

XV A FARAWAY LAND/CARRY THAT WEIGHT

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 9]
Boy, we're from a faraway land
Faraway land, a long way
We would like a treaty with you
We will serve you a long time

[JOSHUA CHAPTER 10]
I never promised protection
I only promised we won’t attack you
The sun refused to stay on track you figure
O’er Gibeon

Lord, we're going to regret that pact
Regret that pact a long time
Lord, we're going to regret that pact
Regret that pact a long time

XVI THE END/THE END

[JOSHUA CHAPTERS 12-23]
Oh yeah, all right
We settle into our land
Tonight.

And in the end
Joshua charged
Choose you this day whom
You will serve

XVII FOUR HUNDRED YEARS LATER/HER MAJESTY

[1 SAMUEL CHAPTER 18]
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she never got a chance to rule
Michal, the daughter of King Saul,
Married David. She was a jewel.

The Bible tells us she loved David a lot
Even took his side over Dad
[spoken] 'til one night, a female servant watched David dancing in a toga and she accidentally saw his my oh my
[resume song] And that made her rather mad, oh yeah
And the breakup was oh so sad.

Good parody, but should be saved for Sunday School!

A guy parodies an entire album, which is also one of the true milestone albums in the history of rock and roll ... and as far as I can tell, did it flawlessly; and for all that gets two thumbs DOWN? By any standard of rationalaity that exists in the realm of human logic, this is one of the best parodies ever done. I know because Im the only other person to do it, and it took me a YEAR to finish it after posting my first verse (not here, elsewhere) It took this fellow maybe a month to do his!! .. Of course he had a lot more subject material to work with than I did ;-D
