The Lyrics

Surrealism abounds in Track 27 of the "White" album project--with titles of other songs, TV shows, famous phrases, and a lousy pun about a "MASH" star. John Lennon would have called it a "word salad" like "Come Together", although I do not profess to be anywhere near the genius of John Lennon--nor George Harrison. I think the whole theme of this song is about the process of writing it...if you know what I'm getting at.
"Green Tamborine", Cobra, Python
"My Dingaling", "The Locomotion"
Take down the words as much as you use
You'll have to take the naughty words out
Do the Tarot Card Shuffle

I have a dream, upturned apple cart
"Taste The Waste", now that's a good start
Starsky and Hutch, and "The St. Louis Blues"
You'll have to take the naughty words out
Do the Tarot Card Shuffle

I feel it on my eyebrow
The words aren't quite true
Like trying to milk a dead cow
Maybe I'll just go back to bed
I'm going "Double Dutch"
I'm gonna make my Mama proud
Creem Magazine

You might get Jamie far
You have unlimited power
You can say "Za-zoo-za-zee, za-zoo-zaza!"
When you wish up on a star

(Repeat Stanza 1)

I get it, the feeling supercedes the logic. It works here. Is the applecart/dream reference an allusion to Robert Frost?

Why, no--I was thinking of Roger Ebert in his lists of Movie Cliches---a comedic chase through a street scene in a movie invariably includes an apple (or fruit) vendor's cart getting destroyed in the ensuing action. Guess maybe the Beatles' songs were the metaphorical apple carts. (AH! "Apple" cart--Apple Records...whoa! synchronicity!! )
