Song Parodies -> "William Claude Fields"

Original Song Title:

"Strawberry Fields"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"William Claude Fields"

Parody Written by:

Alvin Rhodes

The Lyrics

he was such a clown
i'm referring to
william claude fields
he made me squeal
cause there was much to laugh about
william claude fields was clever

laughing, when i see his wide nose
it was a funny sight to see
its not too hard to shriek at one with a big red snout
it looked as merry as can be

he was well reknowned
i'm referring to
william claude fields
he had appeal
he's someone who's still talked about
william claude fields was clever

no one, i think, is in his league
though, some folks would call his humor, low
his flicks, you can, you know, tune in, real late at night
he never made one that was bad

he was so profound
i'm referring to
william claude fields
he had the feel
his movies really knock me out
william claude fields was clever

his ways...were sometimes...lunacy
but he was a legend of the screen
i've heard his real life was a mess
it was all wrong
that's why he lived in fantasy

now he's in the ground
i'm referring to
william claude fields
shot his last reel
my favorite star, without a doubt
william claude fields was clever
william claude fields was clever
william claude fields was clever

I believe his real name was "Dunkefield", but of course that won't scan. One of my fave tales about him. Towards the end of his life he was lying sick in bed, and one of his friends came to visit and caught him reading the Bible. His friend was shocked and said, "Why Bill. Why are you reading that? I thought you were an atheist!" W.C. replied, "Just looking for loopholes."

On the whole, this parody reads better in Philadelphia.

LOL! Well done, Alvin.

WCF: "Madam, ** you ** are ugly."
Madam:"Sir, ** you ** are drunk."
WCF:"Yes, Madam, but in the morning, ** I ** shall be sober."

Clever parody. I like Johnny D's quote, but I have also heard it attributed to Winston Churchill (another WC).

John, I think you're confusing this with the time Lady Astor told Churchill, "If you were my husband, I would poison your coffee," and Churchill said, "If you were my wife, I would drink it." And that may not be original, either. Lady Astor, born in the U.S., was running for re-election to Parliament, and a man told her to go back where she came from. Hearing his Irish accent, she said, "You're imported yourself!" No, he said, he was born right in that town. "Then you're drunk!" No, he said, he hadn't had a drop all day. "Then have a drink. It'll improve your disposition."
