Song Parodies -> "Feng Shui"

Original Song Title:

"Yesterday"

Original Performer:

The Beatles

Parody Song Title:

"Feng Shui"

Parody Written by:

John Jenkins

The Lyrics

Feng shui (pronounced "fung schway") is the practice of configuring structures to maximize their internal harmony. California State Assembly Member Leland Yee has introduced legislation which would have the California Building Standards Commission adopt building standards that promote feng shui.
Legislate
That's what I do for the Golden State
I go to work and I meditate
On which issues to legislate.
Don't tell me, I should address the economy
Or fight crime in the inner city.
Such legislation stresses me.
But there is one cause, that has laws
I must mandate.
It's feng shui, indeed,
That I need to legislate.

Just feng shui,
That's the only law we need today.
All our problems will just go away
If I can implement feng shui.
This is my big chance to enhance
My resumé.
I'm a big ding dong
And I long to plug feng shui.
But feng shui
Was not used by ex-Governor Gray.
If it had, we might not have to say
That Gray Davis is yesterday.

Just what California needs, some more of that long hair legislature. Great parody John.

AN AMIRIGHT TRIVIA MOMENT:

So far, only 4 parodies on Amiright mention "Feng Shui":

"Feng Shui" by John Jenkins

"Space Oddity With Lo Mein" by Johnny D

"Chinatown Girl" by Kristian

"Phony Major" by Rice Cube & Watt Daddy

(This is a reposting of my previous comment which erroneously listed John Jenkins' parody as being the original song "Yesterday" instead of his parody "Feng Shui")
Rice Cube - April 02, 2004 - Report this comment
You actually went through all the parodies to figure that out???

Btw, John, I gave you four for pacing but because of how ridiculous California is in general the rest are fives.
Johnny D - April 02, 2004 - Report this comment
That's right, Rice Cube - I read all 20,000+ of them looking for "Feng Shui" - man, was that tedious. ;-D LOL Then I gave up on that approach and used the "Search" function, looking for "Feng Shui" in any lyric text.

John J - Clever job. Gee, it's almost too bad it isn't pronounced "Shuey", I think a great parody could be made on "Feng Shui" using "Louie, Louie" as the original song if it were - "Feng Shuey, Shuey, oh baby, put that near the door..."
Rice Cube - April 02, 2004 - Report this comment
Oh yeah, the search function...well, you can now rescind my nerd license, I totally blanked on that one :-D

California is a great place to live if you enjoy observing the theatre of the absurd...

Somebody wants to legislate feng shui while people complain about prayer and Christmas carols in public?
Rod Worden - April 02, 2004 - Report this comment
Of course they will always say that obscenities are the crutch of the inarticulate motherfucker, but I say "Fucking Brilliant, John! 555!"

Thanks for all of the votes and comments, Guy, JD, Claude, Rice Cube, Paul, Meriadoc, Grace, and Rod. Johnny D, thanks for the trivia. With 20,000 parodies, it is difficult to be first to mention anything.

Very good point, Grace. The intent of the parody was not to criticize feng shui, which seems to have a logical, practical element as well as a supernatural, unexplainable element. But, as many of the comments hinted, we Californians have problems with budget deficits, crime, immigration, education, and an excessive regulatory burden that drives businesses out of the state, and this legislator thinks that it is appropriate to earn his salary by passing feng shui regulations.

Rod, I appreciate your comment, but I happen to be one of the people who finds the f-dud to be the most impotent word in the English language.

Good parody, John. And as for this "California State Assembly Member Leland Yee has introduced legislation which would have the California Building Standards Commission adopt building standards that promote feng shui" oh SPARE me !
The Thought Police - April 04, 2004 - Report this comment
About the F-word, there's more to its value as a way to "shock and awe"than in just saying it-you gotta give it the proper timing and space to create the desired effect. In the movie "Full Metal Jacket",that drill seargeant first used it to discipline a private who interupted his introduction speech, slugging said private in the stomach immediately afterward. It was a pretty good use of the F-word. On the other hand,in the movie "Undefeated", the jailed boxing promoter, played by Peter Falk,TOTALLY screws up any impact the f-word would've had by using it something like TWENTY times in the same line!(Mr. Falk REALLY should've called Joe Pesci for tips on bringing the F-word to life !) With that outta the way,I would like to---huh?,Feng shui ? THAT'S the F-word? OH!,this parody? Well, ummm-let's see, classic Beatles style, kept to the spirit of the original song while yet maintaining a consistant level of humor,I'll give it three "F's",I mean three "fives"

Good job.

John, thank you for your views on the '"f-dud'". Please allow me to further clarify my comment, then, by saying that your parody was brilliant, though somehow impotent.
John Jenkins - April 04, 2004 - Report this comment
Thank you, GBHD, Peregrin, Thought Police, mac, and Rod.

The TP comments remind me of "Gone with the Wind," which was filmed 65 years ago. The word "damn" was strategically used once in the movie - in Rhett Butler's last line - which made for a very strong finish. We've come a long way in 65 years.

Rod, we are going to like having you at amiright.
