The Lyrics

when i heard the news, i started mourning
hung my head...truth is dawning
how i wish that this was just a dream
you are dead...i must scream (i must scream)

my heart's breaking
how i'm shaking
left alone, i am
i'm only grieving

chapman's motives seemed a little hazy
he's not right...i think he's crazy
found you there and then he did the deed
shots were fired...there you bleed (there you bleed)

this news spoiled my day
you've gone away
you took a fall
i'm only grieving

because some guy went awry
now, your wife's a widow
lost for all time

crying here, despairing at your killing
waiting with the crowd that's milling

they came here to pray
from miles away
you're loved by all
we're only grieving

tears from my eyes
all the world heaves a sigh
for your widow
this was a crime

when i heard the news, i started mourning
hung my head...truth is dawning
how i wish that this was just a dream
you are dead...i must scream (i must scream)

my heart's breaking
how i'm shaking
left alone, i am
i'm only grieving

Alvin, I have no idea why I am the first one here as the OS should be obvious to any Beatles fan as would be the subject matter. I thought you summed up and individual's feeling on Lennon's death very well.

Very sad. First John, then George, and now the Beatles drummer is very sick.....Yassir Arafat

LOL Rick!...and me too Alvin - I was walking past a caravan, whose window was open, and a cheap radio was blaring and they announced it - I can remember the weather, the view, everything - 555 for the shared sentiments

I heard about it the next morning. Somebody said "John Lennon was killed last night." I asked him why anybody would kill the guy who played Felix in the movie version of "The Odd Couple." I didn't really know the names of the individual Beatles at that point (I was 11), though I knew Paul had spent 10 days in a Japanese jail for pot earlier in the year, and it's hard to forget a name like "Ringo Starr." Jack Lemmon lived on until 2001.

I was working nights - the radio announced he'd been shot. At that point one thinks.." Oh how terrible, but he will be okay.." Then they played a couple of Beatles songs and moments later came back and said he'd been shot and KILLED - they had only gotten the word at that point. I was stunned. I stopped what I was doing (stocking shelves) and just went and sat down....
