The Lyrics

See also: 1949 version.
(stadium organ replaces George Harrison's sitar)

I once got a hit.
Pitcher I see, he once hit me.
I said that's enough.
Isn't it good, my cheatin' wood?
They asked me if I drilled a small hole inside of my bat
and did I put cork or some rubber right inside of that?

I said I did not.
Bided my time. Covered my crime.
We trailed three to two.
Bottom of nine. Next turn was mine.

(organ solo)

I swung really hard and the ball it went over the fence.
My bat broke in half and I'll always be making amends.

Because when it broke
what had it shown? That cork had flown.
So released and fired.
I wasn't good with cheatin' wood.

(organ close)
