The Lyrics

Always abused
Never treated kind
Snappiest mare I've ever saw
I've got her on my mind

I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may
And when I do we'll have some hay

Well I was put into a stall
Next to this chestnut mare, been seeing her bite and kick
Oh I tried to talk to her most every day
Ask her what's wrong, why she acts this way, ill-tempered girl
This one day we happen to be in the pasture
And I told her about my breaking in
Said my master was kind and gentle
She said you're lucky
And I don't think I'll ever be

I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may
And when I do we'll have some hay
And we'll be friends for life
She will have no more strife
I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may

And she told me scumbag owner took her away
From her mother while she was still a filly, like a young girl foal
And was then put into a field with some acquaintance colts
Doomed because some boys threw sticks and stones at them
And her owner could not care one bit about what happened
Then took into a cramped dark stable
With just food, water and shelter like before
Till then she is sold to another gent
It's his son Samson, all toughed up and ready to ride
She doesn't respond well to being whipped by this jerk
But then, she's lead into the stall by his father, and snaps at Sam

Ears pinning back, tighter than cramping up muscles
Pointed towards the mane
Tired and stressed
Stood in the sun with flanks bleeding
Her eyes were filled with hate
Behind that scarce grass
Ahead was a soothing voice calling
Come along lassie
Feed up ahead
Seemed to gratefully tempting
Hope was all around

I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may
And when I do we'll have some hay
And we'll be friends for life
She will have no more strife
I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may

Well she was sold off
To some rich guy in London
Who loved to have his horses wear this device
Called a check rein
And her head was forced up
In agony and pain
And all for fashion nothing else
This didn't go well and was sold again to another place
With a horrible groom
And he hit him with a broom
She bit him, and was then sold here
That's when I finally knew
And understood so well
And I'm gonna find out what happens to her later in life some day

I'm gonna soothe Ginger if I may
And when I do we'll have some hay
And we'll be friends for life
She will have no more strife
I'm gonna soothe Ginger, I'm gonna soothe Ginger, I'm gonna soothe Ginger, if I may
