The Lyrics

This song knocked me out when I first heard it in 1967. The original phrasing is a little quirky, but the parody storyline is equally quirky, so I guess we're about even.
I saw her sliding toward the drain.
Foamy bubbles 'round her.
She couldn't wash her hair,
The most she could do was scream.

And I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew),
Shower Gremlins got her. (got her, got her, got her).
Gremlins everywhere - Shower if you dare.
(If you dare, Just beware)
'Cause . . .

They're in your shower, girl!
And as I called her name,
They pulled her down the drain.
I'll hold your towel, girl!
Here's all that's left of you -
A bathtub ring or two. (Ring or, Ring or two)

The gremlins laughed below the tub.
She sank under the suds,
I reached for her hand - but she slid down the drain alone.

And I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew),
Shower Gremlins snatched her (snatched her, snatched her, snatched her).
Snatched her soapy bod - Now she'll be a Pod.
(Be a Pod, Ain't that odd?)
You've . . .

Gone down the shower, girl!
I had to call the cops,
Thank God, they brought a mop.
Blamed it on prowlers, girl!
The sheriff got irate.
He thinks I'm Norman Bates. (Norman, Norman Bates)

In my cell this winter's eve,
Can't find a soul who believes.
And all I have left is one little quarter for a call.

I'll call you ('Cause you're the only girl, it's true),
Who could make me happy (Happy, Doesn't this sound Sappy)
Get me out on bail - I'll tell you my tale.
(Tell my tale, tell my tale)
Then...

You'll take a shower, girl - I'll even fill the tub,
With lots of foamy suds.
I'll hold your towel, girl.
No, I don't hear laughin'.
Perhaps it's just the wind.

This may be the makings for a new Freddy or Jason type movie series. It could be about a bunch of stinky teenagers who can't shower because a Freddy type character comes for them in the shower. Well done. I like the original song as well and have parodied it myself.

I've always admired the way Alfred Hitchcock could tweak the ending of a story into something entirely unexpected, and I attempted to give this parody a bit of a twist.. In the first section, our narrator is the innocent witness to the shower scene. By the second, he's the misunderstood, innocent suspect. In the end, we see that he's been the not-so-innocent co-conspirator, luring young women to the shower to be snatched by gremlins.

Super, Dave! Strange lyrics -- probably why I like them! And congrats on being the first person on-site to parody that song. I like the way you get close to the original, but not too close, and make it work.

I once did a parody of this song about Bill and his original Bimbo, Gennifer Flowers: "I love the Flowers girl." I love this parody, too! 555

Mari - He's the third one to do this song on this site, but he's probably the first to do it well.

Stray - Why don't you post yours here?

Very good parody. I, too, like the way the theme changes from the beginning to end.

I also like Guy's self-deprecating humor because he did an excellent parody of Arnold Schwarzenneger titled "No Brain, No Spark, But Now He's King."

And, along with Guy, I also would like to see Stray Pooch's Gennifer Flowers parody posted here.

As a fan of the comic strip, "Rose Is Rose", I found this to be very laugh inducing. (If you don't read it, Rose's son Pasquale is afraid of the bathtub gremlin that lives in the drain pipe.)

Thanks to everybody. Jonathan, I haven't heard of that comic strip - I'll have to check it out. I'd just decided to play out the parody as a shower scene, and rather than carbon copy "Psycho", I looked for an alternative storyline - what better than something lurking in the drain?

I felt a Bernard Herrmann strings arrangement coming up. Great job!

Guy and John: Thanks, but I wrote that parody over a decade ago - lol! I can't begin to remember all the words, and it wouldn't be too timely now anyway. I also did a parody of the Army Song when Bill was talking about "legalizing" gay behavior in the miiltary. It was called "Clinton's Army" and the best line I can remember was "Look out boys, here come the queens/and they've all got M-16s." But the PC sensibilities of a lot of folks on this site might tend to cause some unnecessary controversy, and I again, it isn't timely. Plus, that old memory thing is a problem. Thanks anyway!

Should this parody be sung by Dr. Dre ? No !

Just wanted everyone to know that today is the 45th anniversary of the deaths of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper. I've started a thread on the message board for those interested.
