The Lyrics

Have already written of the difficult decision, to work alone or collaborate? After deciding to collaborate, though, another issue arises: How to divide the work; i. e., who does what? (There's a limerick about that last phrase, but it should probably be posted elsewhere.)

Original-version video.

You can write
Ev'ry verse, ev'ry line;
Each rhyme is so fine
And the pacing's right :)
Makes me smile
Puts a smile on the man who's so your fan
Wit, he hails, so bright
But don't forget who holds fine-tooth comb
And matches songs so perfectly
So darlin', save the last draft for me

Mmmm...

Oh, I know (oh, I know)
That your wit's di-vine
So, sparkle and shine
Partner, pen your pun
Folks will sing
That's an awesome start
And you're as smart as anyone
But don't go letting meter, far, roam
Or how alarmed I then would be!
So Fiddle, save the last cut for me

Hmmm...

Baby, don't you know
On you, bestow:
Tommy Turtle's tender touch
You're forever clever;
It's a "go"
Like you, there is nonesuch

What a write! (you write right!)
'Bout "Marian,
The Librarian",
And I loved it so
Splitting tasks:
The HTM-L, done by turtle's shell
Where the ™'s go
The copyright and links to our songs:
The Fid, disarms; that's for TT
So darlin', save the format for me

[Interlude: e-mailing and chatting back and forth]

We shall beget magnificent poem
Combining charms of you and me
Of versions, save the last one for T.

Mmmm...

Cast, the last draft, by me, Uhhh, huhhh
Save the last draft for me, Uhhh, huhhh

[repeat, while sparkle never fades]

Not much has appeared from the FGTTeam lately, but we *are* hard at work (which is why TT has been MIA so much lately -- apologies to all), and the results will be coming soon to a theater (or AIR page) near you!

I have enough trouble doin' 'em on my own, but your and FG's joint efforts have been a joy. How about "Collaboration" for "Anticipation"?
Christie Marie M - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
Quite a good job, TT. You're always an awesome writer whether it comes to teaming up with Fiddlegirl or going solo! So far I've noticed 10 parodies you teamed up FG with! I look forward to more someday 'cuz I enjoyed it lots! If I made some time with parodies, I would want to collaborate with someone someday. I go with John Barry's comment as well. 5's!
metaphorsbwithu - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
So, who has the last word in your collaborations? Has FG ever put her foot down and said either my way or the highway? Ever fight for a word or phrase you wanted to change? Great song and perfect adaptation! ;-) Dancin' fives in my eyes!

John A. Barry: Excellent idea! It could happen... .thanks, John. :)

Christie Marie M: TUVM! As per the bottom comment, a fairly large output is coming soon! -- probably in the next week or two. Stay tuned! ... and thanks for v/c!

metaphorsbwithu: We prefer to refer (hehe) to that as "creative tension". Spices things up a bit: when the sparks fly, fire and light result. :D :D :D .... Truth: when said "discussions" (not "fights", thank you :) arise, sometimes something even better comes out. Thanks for v/c!

Another good one from the Turtle, 555 drafts. Stop slobbering, that's songs, not beer! ;-)

Can't wait for more collabs. Can I help too? "Col-lab-or-a-tion, Col-lab-or-a-a-tion, it's mating the great..." ;-)

Your last draft is ALWAYS of fine craft!!! Saving fives for this!

When I get email, one of the first things I will do is find someone who wants to collaborate. That'll be the day! 555

John A. Barry: Done and in for Thursday. Thanks!

blackjack21: Dang it! :) oh well, will take 555 any day :) ... re: your line: Excellent, but I *just* finished JAB's idea and submitted for tomorrow (Thursday US time). .. nothing to keep you from doing your own spin on it, of course! The more, the merrier! ... and that is a *great* line from which to build. Lookin' forward to it... and thanks for v/c!

Mark Scotti: Thanks for your thrift! :)

DJ Blaze: You post here, obviously have Internet access, and no email? (Parent problem?) Yahoo, among others, offers free web-based email. No software to run on your machine, which is indeed a security risk -- MS Outlook™ and Outlook Express™ are constant targets of haxxors. You just go to their page, mail.yahoo dot com, click "sign up", and you're in. Even malicious attachments can't harm you unless you're foolish enough to download them or run them. Tell the parental units that; they might feel safer. ...and always send and receive in "plain text", remote graphics blocked, images blocked, at least until you know that it's someone you trust. Thanks for v/c -- hope the tip helps!

Can't argue with a word of it. TT is far better than I with the finer details... probably with the wit as well, though he is most kind to give me credit for some of that! :)

@ Forsby: Fights, you say? Have *you* ever tried to box a turtle? (Hahaha... "box turtle"-- get it?) :D

@ BJ21: I love the line! It's also grating the mate (i.e. co-writer), as it happens, but that takes the parody in an entirely different direction, doesn't it?
Kristof Robertson - September 16, 2009 - Report this comment
Y'know...I'm no good at sharing, so I have nothing but admiration for the partnerships that provide so many great parodies on Amiright. Cool stuff, TT. 555

You know how alliteration makes my little heart race! (partner, pen your pun...Tommy Turtle's tender touch...forever clever... etc.) *whew*! Is it getting hot in here? ;)

Fiddlegirl : Too modest, way too modest -- E. g., "box turtle" -- now THAT is that sparkling wit to which I was referring! See? See! :)
Re: @BJ21: Doesn't all mating involve a little grating? If it doesn't, you're not putting your all into it. ;)

Kristof Robertson: Thanks, and hope you'll visit our small catalog. Even the stuff on the US political Kennedy dynasty was of interest to your countryman, PA, esp. Sr.'s anti-Churchill, pro-Chamberlain and Hitler attitude, and his opposition to US support of Britain in WWII. Catalog:

And please don't miss the masterpiece in progress, to be released sometime! (hope, this month). Thanks for v/c!

Fiddlegirl, Part 2: Also, how much you love internal rhyming, you forever clever thing! ... yep, know where all the buttons are -- and what lovely buttons! xoxoxo :D

Another good one and with a creative theme based on your writes with FG. I always know I can just sing your parodies when I know the OS. They always match up well. And that is what matters in the write.

Just Dual With It...: LOL at the nick!... but sometimes, it's more like "duel" :) :) ...Yeah, I can hardly wait for FG's climax, too, so I can finally have mine. ;) (psst -- don't tell her I said that, 'k?) Thanks for v/c, JDWI!

Timmy1000: Would you *please* tell that to FG? ... *I* have been trying to convince her of that for weeks now, but does she listen to *me*? Noooo.... just beyatches at how picky I am... to everyone on the boards. Sheesh.... Thanks for the v/c, and the support on matching OS, Timmy!

Oops. I don't mean to bring up sore spots in a great writing team - I just like to sing along or audiolize (is this a word like visualize?) the original artist singing the parody - at times, it makes the parody even funnier. I guess the differences can make the team writing better.
Tommy Turtle - September 17, 2009 - Report this comment
Timmy1000: FG was being facetious, as she so often and so delightfully is :D .. And if "audiolize" isn't a word, it should be -- so, as the world's leading and final authority on English (en-US, anyway), I hereby declare it to be. :)

Seriously: It *is* important that the song sing well to TOS, and the differences between us do indeed improve the output -- one will think of a sub that the other didn't, or, in discussing each's suggestion, it will bring to mind a third one that's better than either of them. "Synergy", I believe they call it. Many thanks for the comment -- and I think FG got the message, as I intend never to bring it up again :D :D

Heh heh, you have captured well, the essence of one of the problems of writing as a team! How to agree on what each is doing! I enjoyed this TT and once I saw the title I thought "Yep, know exactly where this is going!" Except in our case, the boot is usually on the other flipper!
Tommy Turtle - August 17, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: But you should have seen what Merry said about you digging up obscure OSs that she DK, and forcing them on her! ... oh wait, you probably did see that.... Thanks from one of the few who knows from the inside the upsides and downsides of teaming up (and teeming down, heh!)
Peregrin - August 18, 2012 - Report this comment
I DID see it. The following artists spring to mind, by way of retort: Bloodstone, Kelis, Curtis Mayfield, Johnny Ray! And also, the AWFUL "Living In A House Divided" by Cher! But, I no complain! LOL
Tommy Turtle - August 18, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: Of the four you mentioned (does *anyone* count Cher? LOL), only Curtis Mayfield seemed vaguely familiar. A quick lookup showed that he was noted more as a composer, and I did recognize many of the songs that he wrote for others. ... But point taken: No two people on earth will know, much less LIKE, the same songs or artists. One more thing to deal with in a partneship...

And glad to know that it works both ways for you two, too!

Words missing from previous comment:
"Thanks *for the comment* from one of the few who knows from the inside the upsides and downsides.... "
-- it was meant to be about you, not moi.
Peregrin - August 18, 2012 - Report this comment
Cher had some good stuff back in the day. Of course, her 'day' was quite some time ago - in my case, anything pre-1974 (with the exception of 'House Divided').

Songs like "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)", "Dark Lady", "Gypsies Tramps And Thieves" and "Half-Breed" are pretty good, IMO.

Everything after that has been sheit. "If I Could Turn Back Time" was utter sheit. The nasally electronic "Believe" was complete and utter sheit.

To put it in a way that Ewe could understand, never has there been a better example of Mutton dressed as Lamb...
Tommy Turtle @ Peregrin - August 19, 2012 - Report this comment
Peregrin: Agree on the timing on Cher. "You Better Sit Down, Kids" dealing with a tragic topic as a pop song, and written by ex-Sonny, was good. And agree on "Bang Bang" (also written by Sonny). But yeah, sometime after 1970, she was abducted by aliens or something..

LOL at the plastic surgery ref, and personalized, to boot! :-D
