OS (with appropriate video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8NzjzXF0D8 Incident (NY Daily News editiorial): http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/10/17/2009-10-17_culture_adrift_balloon_boy_saga_shows_whats_wrong_in_our_society.html
Where’s that little guy? In that runaway balloon?
How could Falcon fly in that runaway balloon?
Well, his older brother warned him not to touch the ties.
So, did he fly? (Did he fly?)
Up, up, and away!
Falcon’s runaway, his runaway balloon!

Did he float up to space in his runaway balloon?
Did he fall on his face from his runaway balloon?
When it crashed to earth, they searched and he was not inside.
Oh, he can’t fly! (Did he die?)
Up, up…then away
From his runaway, his runaway balloon?

Soared fifty miles; Colorado’s panicky!
Controllers scramble to stop air traffic!
And soon the family finds itself on TV
‘Cause after hours of panic—
The kid’s found in the attic!

On to Larry King for that runaway balloon.
Falcon speaks a zing ‘bout that runaway balloon:
That “We did this for the show,” confessed that little guy.
What—did they lie? (If they lied…)
…they can’t get away
With their pitiful, their pitiful lampoon!

Buffoons!
(Jail! Put them away!
Fines! They’re gonna pay!
Sue! Lawsuits for days!
Quick! Call FAA…!)

Great job, Melanie, and kudos for what I think might be the first Balloon Boy parody on AmIRight. I think the whole thing is an outrageous publicity stunt, and that Falcon and his brothers should be taken away from their parents and adopted by someone else. 5s.

When I saw the balloon in flight I realized there was no place for the boy to fit, nor could a balloon of that size have lifted his weight. The incident reminded me of a very old movie "A Ticklish Affair", in which a sailor romances a young widow in San Francisco. He entertains her children by flying them over the cliff on a weather balloon with a harness and tether. Naturally, the youngest trips the tether while no one is watching, and soars out over the bay. It takes a Navy blimp with a hook to rescue him. Wonder if this family ever saw that movie.

he he After the balloon landed, I to was thinking that the basket was too small, and the kid must be pretty light for that balloon to carry him.

Really timely and really well done!

This was more entertaining than the actual family/story. They did it all for "the show" alright. Nice work.

Melanie - Great pick of OS for this one. Fine job of getting it out while it is still big news. The morning news today said that the mom confessed that it was all a hoax. Parents face up to 6 years in jail - They'll probably skate on the jail with probation but the fines will kill 'em. I look for them to become the next commentary celebs on Tru TV's "The Smoking Gun" since they are so into reality and they meet the criteria. Fine write.

ABC(5)_U/V Commented and voted above...You need to get a better agent - This was perfectly timed, newswise, and so well told, it should have been recorded and marketed to the public!!!

(ABC5) Musta missed that newsflash (but then, I miss every newsflash), what a bunch of morons! Very well done parody, if a bit short.

(ABC) brilliant work and a great OS-get for the news item - esp. loved "Cause after hours of panic—The kid’s found in the attic!" - lol - there must be easier ways to get your own top-rating national family reality show - 555

Great work on lampooning this news story that makes fun of itself just by reading it. I think I might work on a parody of this topic myself.
