The Lyrics

With Mel Gibson's film "The Passion Of The Christ" coming to a theatre near you in about a week, I was inspired to come up with a corresponding song parody. Stepping outside of the humor zone, this is a more serious topic, and I expect it may alienate some.
They led Him here - They led Him there.
They tore His clothes - They stripped Him bare.
Rome could never break Him - With His eyes fixed on the cross.
He's mankind's Dedicated Savior in The Passion.

He healed the sick - He raised the dead.
"Hail, Son of God!" - The people said.
There He hangs upon the cross,
They hurl insults instead.
Still He's the Dedicated Savior in The Passion.

Oh, yes He is (Oh, yes He is) - Oh, yes He is (Oh, yes He is)

The Roman soldiers mocked Him as they beat Him.
The crowd cried, "Crucify Him!" - Pontius Pilate washed his hands.
He crossed the Dedicated Savior in The Passion.

There's one thing Satan loves, and that is blasphemy.
Jesus wore a crown of thorns,
The devil shrieked delight.
Yes, he was dedicated to derail The Passion.

They flogged him here - They flogged him there,
From Pilate's Place - To Herod Square.
If the Christ returned today - We'd murder him once more.
Each one participating fully in The Passion.

Oh yes we would (oh yes we would), oh yes we would (we surely would)

Then Jesus put an end to Satan's party.
T'was love, not nails that held Christ Jesus firmly to the cross,
You are the very one He loved with so much Passion.

Oh yes you is (oh yes you is), oh yes you is (oh yes you is)

He lives from age to age through all eternity.
It's just as true today, He's controversial as can be.
And yet, it's said that God is going out of fashion.
He's come to rescue you, when your world comes down crashin'.
'Cause He's the Dedicated Savior in The Passion.

There have been so many Jesus films in the past (not counting "Last Temptation", and nobody complains. Why is everyone so upset now? My guess is, Mel shows the blood (central to atonement in a Jewish temple sacrifice), and we finally get to see a Jesus who isn't a blonde-haired, blue-eyed, Anglo-Messiah.

Wow, got so worked up, I spelled my name wrong. Of course it's not my real name, so who cares?

This parody is very inspiring, David. The most insightful lines that you wrote were:
"If the Christ returned today – We’d murder him once more.
Each one participating fully in The Passion."

Thanks for stopping by, everyone. Birgitta, thank you very much for your comments - they meant a lot. And Alvin, thanks for the invite, but I'll have to pass on the summer vacation in the Lake of Fire. TSSSSSS.... Way hotter than I like it.

If the Pope read this parody, he might say, "It is as it was." Thank you for sharing this moving parody, David.

Well done. Since I'm a Christian, I thought I'd get in before those who aren't and say- you nailed it.

Thanks to all who stopped by and commented. "The Passion Of Christ" movie has been a major topic of discussion at the coffee machine for weeks. From all accounts, it's a Biblically accurate film, and people can find out for themselves who Jesus is without being thumped over the head by a Strong's Concordance (the volume must weigh a good five pounds).

This deserves 555 for putting such a serious thought into such a happy-go-lucky song. It could drip irony for some, or inspire awe in others (as evidenced in the above comments). Good job Dave for taking the high road on this one.
