Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Heights of Flight That's When/Late Delusion"

Parody Written by:

Adagio

The Lyrics

Heights of flight that's when
Ever leaching I penned;
Fetters I'm ditchin'
Ever weaning my friend.
Duty I'd always kissed
But this guise sees more.
Just where my youth is
Don't much care any more.

I'm part of you
I'm part of you
Oh! I write of you.

Gazing at gleeful
Ones that are bland;
My gut it always knew
I cannot demand.

One tries to sell me
Thoughts - forgets to pretend;
Just what you flaunt at me
You have been here to mend.

I'm part of you
I'm part of you
Oh! I write of you.
Oh! I write of you.

~ instrumental ~

Light it has happened.
And there's teaching again.
fetters I've bitten
Ever trying to rend.

Duty is in our midst
Myth it is no more.
Just what that truce says
I can't say anymore.

I'm part of you
I'm part of you
Oh! I write of you.
Oh! I write of you.

I'm part of you
I'm part of you
Oh! I write of you.
Oh! I write of you.

~ instrumental ~

Late Lament
Grief weeps and gathers the doom
While I pray it will not loom.
Sad bitter people sit back and resent
Some other ways success makes me content.
Old-fashioned minds have melded as one,
Only my eyes think of this; there's none.
I find rather bricks instead of just one,
But there is sense of alikeness sung.

Gold hearted one that stops the flight
Removed my error from your sight.
If I stay I just might slight,
But I decide what is right
And what is my delusion.

I love it when you stick it to all those clowns who demand obvious literal meanings. 555

:-D Thanks Johnny...I knew you'd find a Moody Blues one sooner or later. This one was fun.

you know what, old-fashioned minds DO meld as one - nice observation - 555 adagio (should help cure the effects of 3s-guy)

Thanks Stuart...for the words and the boodt in score. ;)

Stuart, I meant boost.

the mis-spelling didn't flummox me adagio - whenever I read your stuff I apply a lateral approach to every word :-)

Still waiting for that fantasy novel.
Scathe - December 10, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Very vivid and poetic. Although I have no idea what it's about. But that's typical of me when I read poetry.

Thanks, Rick and Scathe

SOTM--nice job, Adagio.

(SOTM) Particularly like the "Just where my youth is..." couplet! Nicely done and perfectly scanned!

Thanks Melhi.
Paul Robinson - December 13, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) - Wonderful work - 5's - your replacement words matched the OS lyrics just about perfectly in pace & cadence, flowed poetically and also made complete sense (at least to me they did). Can't be done much better than that.
Adagio - December 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Paul. :-) That's very sweet of you!
John Jenkins - December 13, 2004 - Report this comment
I agree with Paul, except it did not make complete sense to me. Of course, a lot of things don't make complete sense to me so I can't hold that against you. Well done, Adagio.
Adagio - December 13, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks John J.
Phil Alexander - December 14, 2004 - Report this comment
What JJ said... I always had that problem in English class when the teacher would ask what the poet meant - at one point I answered "How should I know - he's obvious couched it in poetic language just to confuse poor schoolchildren like me" ;-)
Adagio - December 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Phil!
Spaff.com - December 19, 2004 - Report this comment
I guess I'm less like P-Rob, to whom this made "complete sense," and more like one of Johnny DD's "clowns who demand obvious literal meanings." And you managed to "stick it to" me once again. But kudos for making me feel moody. And blue.
Paul Robinson - December 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Spaff (and others) - so now you can really begin to comprehend just how demented and deranged I REALLY am...(maybe) ~ ~ ~ be careful when you demand literal meanings, though...sometimes they can really give you the blues...
Adagio - December 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Spaff...I really didn't try to make you feel moody or blue. :/

Paul , thanks. I think if I look close enough at your comment, there may be a slight dig, eh? lol
Spaff.com - December 19, 2004 - Report this comment
Kiddin' about the moody and blue thing, Pat. Just a little wordplay I couldn't resist.
Tim Mayfield - December 22, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Adagio, I should give you a lower score because you brought back high school memories with this one. Ugh! ;-) Seriously, this is so opposite my style that it's hard to grade it. I wrote a poetic imagery poem in high school that I thought was atrocious but the teacher gave it an A+ and kept berating the other students about doing better. I just don't know good poetry when I read (or write) it.
Adagio - December 22, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks Tim...but did you like it? There are no additional votes. :)

(ABC05) Lol, the irony Adagio. I said on the parody I made of NIWS that nothing further need be said, yet now something further need be said. Already voted this 555. As far as saying something other than "good job" here, I'm still at a loss for words at the moment, other than "surreal" I suppose.

Note: Surreal is good.

Your use of the original song is so clever in certain instances, that that in and of itself is funny and captivating. So this gets a 'clever and captivating' from me, Pat. And that's all I have to say about that.
