Boris Johnson, prime minister of the United Kingdom, married Carrie Symonds, the mother of their child Wilfred, in a low-key private ceremony on Saturday 29th May 2021. The wedding was held close to their official Downing Street residence in Westminster Cathedral, and was reportedly presided over by Father Daniel Humphreys, who had previously baptised their one-year-old son Wilfred.

Mr Johnson divorced from his first wife Allegra Mostyn-Owen in 1993, before marrying Marina Wheeler and their divorce was finalised in November 2020. Neither of those marriages had occurred in a Catholic church however, meaning that there was no doctrinal impediment to this third marital ceremony. Catholic writer Catherine Pepinster observed: “As far as the church is concerned, this is his first marriage. The others don’t need to be annulled.” Christopher Goodyear, an officer with the Metropolitan Police, added “He’s now married in the Catholic church so he can’t get married again – if he does then that invalidates everything. So let’s hope he keeps his trousers on and behaves himself.”
