The Lyrics

It hasn't been my plan, but I seem to be posting election songs on Tuesdays. I'm sure this will stop in three weeks at the latest...maybe sooner. I'm also certain that I could find enough quotes and miscues for another four verses. ;D

"Summer of Re-co-ve-ry" - it has gone bust.
"Keep your health plan and your doctor" - we did trust.
"Astroturf" Tea Party - influence slight.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

"Drain the swamp"? Hardly! Much D.C. corruption.
New inside phrase - "Global Climate Disruption".
"Ignorant voters" John Kerry would fight.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

"Teachable Moment" each time there's a screw-up.
Cops "acting stupidly" - that one sure blew up.
"Fox...not a news network" - tool of the right.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

In just three weeks - we'll be voting,
And it's far from clear.
But all indications of what may transpire
Mean a major shift - is near.

"First pass the bill then you'll know what is in it".
"Hand-to-hand combat" should G.O.P. win it.
Incumbents hiding their records from sight.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

New foreign policy - lost in disorder.
"Sue Arizona" - but don't guard the border.
Mex Prez scolds Congress - Dems squeal in delight.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

Debts in the trillions - the country unsteady.
Hundreds of billions for jobs "shovel ready".
Now they want more to save them from their plight.
These are the words that have come back to bite.

A tsunami - or a ripple?
Not for me to say.
But give thanks to Heaven because we can choose!
We're here in the U.S.A. ;D

So...read it before you vote. ;D

Well, at least we both now know that neither of the parodies that we do will come back and bite us in the bud! LOL!! ;-D 555!

Right on! This is a thorough memory aid for voters who haven't kept a journal of Dem's promises & gaffes since 01/02/07, from "Drain the swamp" to "Hand-to-hand combat". Missed Joe Biden, though; but 555.

Good political parody of this saccherine song. I hope Mark Russel saw it.

Uh. . .hmm. . .great title--a little iffy grammatically for me--as a recording it'd be very confusing, but love the idea

Super concept! More verses for Gitmo flip-flop, promising to end"Don't Ask, Don't Tell", etc. ? Guess you'd end up like TT's takes, with one having 28 verses, one having 16. (no plugs.)

Fave line: :"First pass the bill then you'll know what is in it":

Scores a bulls-eye! 555

@ Below Average Dave: Uh, how is this *grammatically* off? Poetic license allows considerable latitude in grammar for the sake of rhyme and meter (pacing). ... Since you mentioned recording, perhaps referring to displaced stresses, as in "recovery"? It would be a little awkward to sing, though fine in written form, with the hyphens alerting us. If you're going to record it, try:

"Summer Recovery: Nope! It has gone bust!" ... scans perfectly. Looking forward to your recording, with OMR's permission, of course.

OMR: Once had an idea to satirize "Summer of Recovery" to "Only In America" (Jay And The Americans), but probably won't. If you want it, run with it!
