Just now, after reading my "cat scat", my wife suggested that I should go get a CAT scan (LOL)

Good thing this wasn't about scat FROM the cat.

I liked it! Even cat lovers can identify with this.

Maybe get a PET scan as well?

DKTOS, so won't vote, but in general, it would show a lot more creativity to vary as many lines as possible in as many ways as possible, rather than have 90% of the lines consist of essentially the same words and phrases, regardless of what the OS does. That's a lesson that I and every other noob had to learn, so don't feel bad. Keep working and thinking!

If you DK the meaning of DKTOS, it's here:

@ Steve K: Don't worry, at least one person here "got" it. xD

You might not recognize the title, but I'm sure you would KTOS, Mr T, seeing as how it got to #4 in 1963. This is a novelty song where the same nonsense lyrics are repeated at a very rapid pace in a harsh, atonal voice and finishes with endless variations of "Papa oomah mow mow" And you are no doubt correct that it would have been more creative to change it up a little, but it probably wouldn't have made the parody any funnier, because part of the humor of the OS is its relentlessly repeating the same nonsense over and over. Besides, I could only find two words to rhyme with cat which suggest fighting. And it could be that strictly adhering to the song's format in the first two thirds increases the impact of the last stanza where I start riffing all over the place

Gotcha. DK the title, but the "Papa oomah mow mow" brought it back -- isn't there "The bird is a word" in there? K of it, but wasn't a fave. Thanks for cluing me in.

"because part of the humor of the OS is its relentlessly repeating the same nonsense over and over." .... Although (MHO), I didn't find OS funny, it would have been *really* funny had you repeated *different* nonsense over and over, for a couple of lines. then some more nonsense, 'haps phonetically similar to the previous, but different. ... No need to stay with "fighting" -

Drat the cat!
Catch a rat! Good for that?
Fat, fat, cat
Furball, a mat
Tawt I saw - a puddy tat (Tweety Bird ref)

etc. Then still switch formats as you did... I get this better now; see the ability to discern the structure, and reinforce that there's talent there. Welcome to AIR! -- and did you not like "PET scan"? :-D

p.s.: I'm not here so often these days as I used to be, but it's good to know which authors appreciate suggestions and constructive feedback (never insults), and which would rather have automatic 555 and auto-praise -- which renders genuine praise meaningless. (Most of the writers from the past year or two seem to fall in the latter category, as opposed to four or five years ago, when TT arrived. Comments from the experience helped TT greatly.) Anyway, let me know, in case our paths cross again, and GL in your parody career. Cheers.

You're aware of http://www.rhymezone.com, right?
I try to get as many in my own head as possible, but it's a great resource if time-pressured, drawing a blank, or as here, where you need a bazillion rhymes.

Now that I fully remember that not-so-fond OS, doing this would actually have been quite a challenge -- nonsense patter like that is much tougher than the average song. Props for having the nerve to try it.

Another similar one is "Who Put The Bomp (in the bomp-she-bomp-she-bomp)" by Barry Mann. I realized that one of the tributes to John Barry that were linked in reply to you at American Pie was to that OS, and it isn't easy.

I've done it twice more, once with a co-writer. Won't plug those. If you should happen to be interested, I think you know how to find them on my page, or by looking under "Parodies By Performer" - B - Barry Mann". Other was under "Fiddlegirl and Tommy Turtle". Other than those three, there are only ten other parodies of it listed, vs. almost 200 for AmPie, and, what, 80,000 total on the site.

About the only thing tougher, in terms of all-over-the-place vs. structure, is "Blinded By The Light". I've done APie eight times (incl 3 with co-author), but once was enough on that monster. At least APie has a very well-defined structure to follow.

Given that, I think a 555 is in fact earned (having remembered OS), for tackling it so early. Maybe a challenge, to do it again in six months or a year? ... but not for my sake or anyone else but your own, of course.

Sorry if the first comment came off as harsh, but I have an eye for talent, and like to see it blossom in those who are willing to grow. - TT

Callmelennie, I saw your confusion at JAB's "grammar" parody, "Let it Be", and explained it. You were right to be confused. If you get a chance, see my comment there:
