The Lyrics

Could you please by chance help me with my plight,
Just want to get myself a little bite.
Buy for me a burger, I'll pay Tues-dee.
This friend of Popeye, that they call Wimpy.

Oh Wimpy,
What is it you fancy?
Beg on, beg on, beg on, how you so plea.
Oh Wimpy,
Just give it one more whirl,
Maybe could even get those fries that curl.

He's following a duck for sustenance,
With that meat grinder maybe there be a chance.
Grind him up and get a duck burger free,
But that old duck he kept one step ahead of Wimpy.

Oh Wimpy,
What is it you fancy?
Beg on, beg on, beg on, how you so plea.
Oh Wimpy,
Just give it one more whirl,
Maybe could even get those fries that curl.

Old Wimpy keeps on beggin' no one seems to hear,
Gladly pay you Tuesday for a burger and beer.
He keeps on with that talk, he wants his burger free,
But then the cartoon ended and he's still hungry.

Oh Wimpy,
What is it you fancy?
Beg on, beg on, beg on, how you so plea.
Oh Wimpy,
Just give it one more whirl,
Maybe could even get those fries that curl.

There is some odd connection between Tommy Roe and Wimpy. All it takes is a warped mind like yours to find it. I like the way you avoided the obvious "Swee' Pea".

I love this song! And I loved the parody! Fries that curl made me giggle.

Thanks all who have enjoyed this one and commented and voted. Just wondering. The part in the song with the duck was from an actual Popeye cartoon where Wimpy was following a duck with a meat grinder and trying to grind the bird from the tail forward. The duck always kept just a step ahead as Wimpy was shown in scene after scene of animation following that duck. Does anyone remember that cartoon besides me?

I am a big fan of the Fleicher "Popeye" cartoons. They used to show them Sunday mornings (before they tried to colorize them) and I recorded many. I don't remember that paricular Wimpy episode, but they did some amazing things back then. There were subtle innuendos in the mutterings, and bizarre violent outbursts you could never do today. (Like punch a cow and have him turn into steaks and hamburger) Also Betty Boop. (Same voice as Olive, Mae Questal)

I remember Wimpy, Popeye, and this original tune - put it all together - and it's another DiRito classic. Good job.

Thank you everyone for our votes and your kind comments. I really like the old Popeye cartoons. Now that I'm older I seem to notice that Popeye mumbles a lot in these old cartoons but if you listen closely he really says a lot of stuff.
