The Lyrics

The video of the OS is a trip...see it here... In The Year 2525.
Slasher Film 2,525

[rubato…out of time at the discretion of the viewer trying to stay awake]

Slasher film 2,525
The “cute chick” stays alive
The “dork” will not survive
We don’t mind…

[a tempo…resume the tempo of every string screeching horror movie soundtrack ever ripped-off from Psycho]

Slasher film 3,535
Nightmare On Elm Street…Thirty-One…girlfriend sighs,
“Please don’t think I’m in a bad mood
But I’m more scared…of this Drive-In food…”

Slasher film 4,545
Chisel against the teeth…ice-picks in eyes
Now, I don’t mean to cause a fuss
Don’t need to see that pancreas

Slasher film 5,555
Your arms are cut-off clean at your sides
You say, “It don’t hurt a bit”…
Oops…wrong song…that’s a Monty Python skit

Slasher film 6,565
Some guy dressed like his mother…wielding a knife
Why does she stay…in that haunted house
Wearing hot-pants and a see-through blouse ?…Boo…yeah…

[key change…while you pause the video…then forward slowly until the lighting is “just right”]

Slasher film 7,510
Please ! I need to see Jamie Lee again
She’s still hot and she’s looking fine
Just like my Grammie…they both are Eighty-Nine

Slasher film 8,510
Kids decide they should go camping again
Maybe they should have thought about it first
Not picked October Thirty-First…Duhhh…ooo

[Another key change while you shake your head and start to wonder]

Slasher film 9,595
I'm kinda wondering just how this genre stays alive
I’ve seen beheadings…watched the entrails ooze
And that’s just by watching the Evening NEWS…oh…no

[rubato again while you go to your Netflix account and put Bambi at the top of your queue]

Now I’ve seen ten-thousand flicks
“worst of” bombs and “best of” picks
The sequels never stop
“Over” has no “top”

But as the splatter flies
And “teens” meet their demise
It’s now time to discuss
Maybe these themes are dear to us…

Body count 2,525
The hope was still alive
But it cannot survive
If we find
Body count 3,525
Body count 4,545 (etc.)
(repeat and fade)

So good, it's scary! And definitely an original idea. I suppose Friday the 13th, Part 2,525 will be playing tomorrow at a theater near you.

Friday the 13th comes but once each year. "Friday the 13th" on the other hand continues to proliferate faster than you can start a chainsaw.

Great parody, great commentary.

Brilliant work here Invisible Boy, I never liked Slasher Flicks and you pretty much pointed out all the reasons why. The same tired cliches in every single film, can get a tad bit tireing.

I too like David Cronenburg, but gee Monica from Friends made a wrong career move - so many funny lines, IB - esp. "Don’t need to see that pancreas" and you nailed all the cliches.......shameless plug foo my own cliche parody...

Actually, this year there are THREE Friday 13th's - February, March, and November. Just thought I'd mention it. :)

(Ages) This reminds me of a certain Eddie Izzard bit which rips on the same sort of horror film conventions. Look it up on YouTube. Actually, just look up Eddie Izzard, he's awesome. Anyway, 555 for you!

AGES...well this was just fabulous. Seriously...as a slasher film fan, this tickled me!

(Ages) Nice twist on TOS, . . .Jon S, I wonder if that series will ever die, way too many. . .wow, good job IB
Melanie Lee - February 25, 2009 - Report this comment
This is great, thematically brilliant, and full of laughs. Now I have a tie to break! 5-5-5 and four stars!
Jeff Reuben - February 25, 2009 - Report this comment
(Ages) Excellent job. Did you ever see Friday the 13th part 10 I think? When Jason has been cryogenically frozen for 500 years, then goes on a killing spree on the ship? This could be the theme song (or could have been the inspiration!) Funny, well done!
Glen S - February 25, 2009 - Report this comment
Well done. I have to agree on several counts, but I especially liked the 'entrails ooze/evening news' couplet
Mark Scotti - March 11, 2009 - Report this comment
Should read the year 555!!! Another supurb job IB, on one of my favorite songs.
Matthias - March 12, 2009 - Report this comment
This was still great! I loved all of your clever jabs and ice picks to the eyeball of these lame and overdone horror films.
Phil Alexander - March 17, 2009 - Report this comment
What a truly turgid OS.. the slash-n-grab alternative lyrics were quite the pick-me-up in comparison :-)
kevin - March 20, 2009 - Report this comment
all the above comments are way off this os is intoxicating and youve made one worth the finel curtain of a night of dinking
Claude Prez - March 21, 2009 - Report this comment
Very good; surprised no one has mentioned the Jamie Lee part yet, that was my fave.
Pensworth - March 21, 2009 - Report this comment

Great
Stuart McArthur - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) see above, IB, and I'm glad to see I predicted correctly - every verse a gag, and insightful humour too - gee this is a tough month
Below Average Dave - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Opinion on this one hasn't changed, still very good recap of the horror genre, and the comparison to the Evening News was both accurate and deserving
Jeff Reuben - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Still a great song, see above!
Arwen - March 31, 2009 - Report this comment
SOTM...still tickled...=) Honestly...I just love this.

Remind me to come visit this next halloween. I had already forgotten how much quality work came out of that 'ages' round. Still well done a 2nd time around.
