Original Song Title:

"Copacabana"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

Barry Manilow

Parody Song Title:

"Tony Soprano"

Parody Written by:

Claude Prez

The Lyrics

His name was Tony
He ate cannoli
It's a very stressful job
When you boss the Jersey mob
So Doctor Melfi
She gave him Prozac
She's the shrink that Tony saw
Where he'd whine about his maw
She tried to make him well
He was screwed up as hell
He gets pissed off but comes back after
His next fainting spell

Fainting Tony (TOE!)
Tony Soprano (Tony Soprano)
A wiseguy who don't take no guano
Big fat Tony (TOE!)
Tony Sopranooo
Bruisin' and smashin'
Are always in fashion
When you're Tony...
He's spillin' blood...

(Tony--Tony Soprano)

His name was Ralphie
He don't like Tony
When he barbecued T's nag
His head wound up in a bag
Then there was RICO
The RICO statutes
So a made guy's life is tough
Cause the feds are playing rough
They miss the golden age
Now squealing's all the rage
And they're givin' the Moe Green specials
With a .410 gauge

Arranged by Tony (TOE!)
Tony Soprano (Tony Soprano)
He's whacking Joe Pan-to-li-an-o
Fatass Tony
Tony Sopranooo
It was sad when he
Bumped off Steve Buscemi
(cousin Tony)
He killed his cuz...

(Toe-kneeeeee)
(Toe-kneeeeee So-praaaa-noooooo)
(Toe-kneeeeee)
(He eats lasaaaaaagn-ooooooo)

His name was Tony
He wasn't bony
But if you think he's Santa Claus
You'll be needing lots of gauze
He has a fam-lee
They love his mon-ee
But his wife has lots of fits
And his kids are spoiled twits
If he don't get his taste
He'll rearrange your face
If you ask what he does he'll tell you it's just
Manage waste

(Yeah right)-- La Cosa
La Cosa Nostra
Where guys do what they're not supposed ta
Guys like Tony
Tony Sopranooo
Smackdowns and bloodshed
Will keep your fat butt fed when you're Tony
Don't piss him off...

As we say here in Soprano country, "Holy f---in' s---, dis here song was so f---in' funny!" Puts my own "Ode to Philly Joe" to shame! "A wiseguy who don't take no guano"? I haven't laughed this hard at an Amright line since Spaff wrote "The Wreck of Ben Affleck and J.Lo"! ("From obscurity's bowels...") I don't know about Prez, but Kerry should definitely make you Secretary of Humor!

Great job!

What better combo than Tony & Barry? This was hysterical! The idea of James Gandolfini dancing and singing in that yellow Copacabana outfit is even funnier than him dancing with a man in a hotel to "The Safety Dance"!! (The Mexican) 555 for the Prez!

I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't seen The Sopranos, but after reading this very funny parody, I don't have to.
John Jenkins - July 10, 2004 - Report this comment
I have not watched the Sopranos and I don't get the TOE lines, but I get enough of the other lines to know that this is an outstanding parody. The guano and guaze lines were my faves.

Agrees with everyone else about no guano here. And "La Cosa Nostra, Where guys do what they're not supposed ta" will go down in family history too. :-)

This IS brilliant! I've been going through major Soprano withdrawls since the last season ended. I'm sure I'll be reading this one again and again...

SOTM - Never seen the show, never will, but this is fantastic -- very clever what you did with RICO, and I loved the 'Cosa Nostra/ not supposed ta' rhyme.

(SOTM) Poifect! Mucho respect atchoo, my friend! Some great rhyming in this one and, even though I've only seen the show about twice (it's aired 10:30pm down here- on a school night!) this was really enjoyable and humorous. Foives.
Phil Nelson - August 10, 2004 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I thought it was quite funny.

I never saw the show, but you don't need to have watched it to enjoy the brilliance here. SOTM 5-5-5

SOTM -- Claude is a dou.... huh? What that, Claude? You were kidding about that? You'll hunt me down and gut me like a what? OHHHH! Gee, I'm glad I didn't start commenting at the bottom of the list then... whew, close call, there! (Seriously, see above.. sounds trite, but I meant it.)

My smart-ass earlier comment doesn't do this justice. I'm squarely in your target audience: I DO watch the Sopranos and I DO enjoy Barry Manilow parodies. Others have already quoted many of my fave parts, so I better hurry up and rave about the Joe Pantoliano line before someone else beats me to it.
