The Lyrics

This was written for my English project on Act III scenes i-iii of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Basically, it is about how Shakespeare wanted to make Twelfth Night a tragedy but the characters convinced him to make it a comedy instead (think, Shakespeare the Schizophrenic).
It's nine o'clock on rehearsal day
The characters all shuffle in
There's Sir Toby sitting next to me
Getting drunk with Sir Andrew again

He says, "Son, can you make this a comedy
I don't really like how it goes
Something's missing, you see
But it might be complete
With Viola dressed up in men's clothes."

La la la di di da
La la di di da da dum

Write us a play Mr. Shakespeare, man
Write us a play tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for some comedy
And you've got this play called Twelfth Night

"Now Olivia falls for Cesario
But she don't know he's really a she."
So include that I would, 'cause I think it's so good
That it shoulda been written by me

Seb says, "Will, I disagree with you killing me
In that stupid shipwreck I was in
Well, why don't I hook up with Antonio
And we'll meet at the Elephant Inn."

Oh la la la di di da
La la di di da da dum

Now Andrew's experiencing jealousy
Olivia he wants for a wife
And he's talking to Fabian, a servant who gave him
Advice about ending his strife

But Sir Toby says nothing good comes from this
And a better idea he has shown
Andrew'll challenge Cesario to a duel
And Olivia'll be his alone

Write us a play Mr. Shakespeare, man
Write us a play tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for some comedy
So you've got a play to rewrite

It's some pretty good advice from the characters
Trade a tragedy in for a smile
They won't know it's not me who wrote this comedy
'Cause Sir Toby'll be drunk for a while

And the audience sounds like they like the show
And they laugh at the jokes that they hear
And they chuckle and roar, and I know it for sure
That they all enjoy being here

Oh la la la di di da
La la di di da da dum

Write us a play Mr. Shakespeare, man
Write us a play tonight
And who knows, in a century or two or three
They all might be reading Twelfth Night

This is a extraordinarily good parody for someone who only put down ten submissions. Everyone should take a look at this. A hidden treasure
