"Who's To Blame?"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

"You're So Vain" is a very popular song to parody here at Am I Right, com, so let me add some more kindling for the fire.
You walked in through the doorway,
Next, you were tripping over the pup.
You then majestically sat upon your throne;
And found that the lid was up.
Over brunch you plugged the toaster in;
It gave you quite a shock.

And all the flowers died, when you were the gardener,
You were the gardener, and

Who's to blame?
You probably think it's everyone but you.
Who's to blame?
I'll bet you think they're all out to get you,
Don't you? Don't you?

It happened several beers ago,
A tavern on New Year's Eve.
When you rose from your glass,
For a pretty lass,
Who called herself Genevieve.
But you sobered up on New Year's morn,
And learned her name was Steve.

I heard some screams as you ran down the hallway,
Ran down the hallway, and

Who's to blame?
You probably think it's everyone but you.
What's your game?
I'll bet you think they're all out to get you,
Don't you? Don't you?

Well, I heard you were born down in Sarasota,
Your mom thinks your dad was the one.
But you grew to suspect as you thought it over,
Now you're not totally convinced you're his son.
Well, your mother says, "You're his and mine."
This may be true, and yet

You may have her eyes, but you look like the Postman,
Look like the Postman, and

Who's to blame?
You probably think it's everyone but you.
You're insane.
I'll bet you think they're all out to get you,
Don't you? Don't you?

I love parodies that make a song I don't like enjoyable. It expands my listening world so much.

Thank you, one and all. Back when "You're So Vain" was 'Hitbound', so to speak, I would chime-in "you look like the Postman..." when singing along. It was fun to develop a full parody from there, some thirty years later.

Well, the postman line was MY fave; great job

At first, I thought this was about me, but that's only because I'm so vain. Good scan and quirky. I'm glad you found another outlet for your considerable talent.

Loved the middle verse about Steve and Genevieve! :-D

Rats! I thought this was gonna be about the Red Sox. They always need a scapegoat, someone to blame, never supposing that maybe the team they lost to might actually have been better.

I still don't get "Carly Paul Simon". The original performer is Carly Simon, and Paul Simon is a totally different performer.

Dear Kahn Fuzed, Many people just like YOU have written to me over the years expressing similar feelings. One which comes to mind is a case of self-identity confusion suffered by a popular rock musician named John Cougar Melloncamp. He didn't know if he was Johnny Couger, or John Melloncamp, or even John Couger Melloncamp. Finally he decided to go with just plain "Melloncamp". It was easier for him to remember, though personally, I prefered John Mellon Cougercamp.

I think you're wrong, David. Carly simon and Paul simon are two different performers, and I'm pretty sure that they're not related. By the way, you spelled Mellencamp wrong.
David Chrenko - February 20, 2004 - Report this comment
Dear Fuzed Kahn, I didn't spell "Melloncamp" wrong - HE did. And you may be right about Carly and Paul Simon. Paul's a great solo artist, and who could forget the musical magic of Carly Simon & Art Garfunkel?
John Mellencamp - November 06, 2004 - Report this comment
No, I didn't. It says Mellencamp on my birth certificate, as well as on my driver's license, so YOU spelt it wrong, pal.
Mr critic - November 26, 2006 - Report this comment
It's also spelt Mellencamp on all his solo albums. So there. :P

Hey, how about doing a similar parody about President Obama, the narcissist.
