"Lucifer Went Up To Heaven"
The Lyrics
spoken into...
One morning I got up not really wanting to go to work
Because I really didn’t feel like being bullied by my boss ‘The Jerk’
So I thought about it and asked God what I should do?
He told me to go get a Bible and do what it told me to.
So I flipped it open and read a story that seemed quite macabre
It told about the tribulations endured by some rich guy named... Job?
How could this be? now my life didn’t seem so bad
But my boss still somehow manages to make me mad
begin parody...
Lucifer went up to heaven. He was lookin’ for a soul to scourge
He’d been to and fro before he sought the Lord, and he was really feeling the urge
So the Lord mentioned his upright servant who was perfect in all deeds and thoughts
That made Satan fire back in an accusing way, and said “Doth Job fear God for nought?
“You’ve put a hedge about him, and have blessed him in all his ways
But lay your hands upon this man, he’ll curse you to your face!”
So, the Lord said unto Satan, “all that he has is in thy hands”
Take all his children and wealth but not his health, and see where his loyalty stands!”
So then Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord
To destroy this man with his evil plan; Job didn’t know what was in store
Job he, he tore off his mantle and went and shaved his head
When he heard from his servants that his children were now dead
And like the wind his herds were gone. He felt downtrodden
Despiste all of this, he never cursed God and...
Fell, worshiping God on his face; speaking as the teardrops burned
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked I shall return”
And he never charged God foolishly when he had this more to say
“I’m glad when the Good Lord giveth and not mad if taken away”
::Fiddle interlude::
After Job came out okay, Satan went back to see the Lord and moaned
“He’ll curse you to your face I say, just let me touch his flesh and bone!”
Boils on his body - head to crown
An anthrax outbreak won’t keep a good man down
Job is with a potsherd scraping out puss
Even when the flies bite, he wont cuss
The Lord’s servant bowed his head humbling himself in sackcloth, torn
And he asked his well intentioned comforters why he was born?
Job they said, “Maybe, you have committed some egregious kind of sin?”
But he told his friends, “Just you wait and see, my star will shine once again”
He sang:
Fortune from the ashes, I’m restored
A servant in the heart of a Loving Lord
Looking back at it now it’s all a blip
Daughters that are so fine, old men flip
