"Complainin' Of The April Fools"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Listen to complainin' of the April fools
And they know just what a fool they've been
They know that they were fooled and it was April first
They look at calendars again

Now the only time that they get fooled is on that day
Next time they won't be so dumb
They'll think what does the calendar on the wall say
They'll know that's a good rule of thumb

Fool they feel like seems it's not fair
But many others are fooled on that day, pulled hair
They can't feel too good when
People are laughin' cause of that

Yeah, Listen to complainin' of the April fools
Everyone knows what a fool they've been
And they know they were duped and unaware, ooh
And it won't happen again

The only time that they get fooled is on that day
Next time they will learn to think
But little do others know when they walked away
They ripped a fart that really stinks

Now they're lookin' for some sweet revenge
To get them back, all their so called friends
So they tell a whopper when
It's not even April First

Listen to complainin' of the April fools
Everyone laughs at the fool they've been
They wish that they could go somewhere and hide away
And never be fooled again

When the fool comes
They run, laugh off their heads
The fool goes there with dread
When the fool comes

To paraphrase the distinguished American philosopher Mr. T, "I pity the fools!"

I voted 454 for a few pacing glitches here and there, but it sounds to me like you may be a bit of a prankster yourself! ;)

Thanks Ribber, Mark, Dan, AFW, TJC, and Fiddlegirl. FG: yeah, I'm a bit of a prankster sometimes :-)

I remember when I was driving to school on April Fools Day my senior year (all of 9 years ago). When I came to a stop at the light down the street I heard a huge bump and I freaked out because it sounded like a body and their was an odor with it, I opened my trunk right then and there--and it was bad bread and a bowling ball, which my mom died laughing about when I got home before I even said anything, my mom's a mischievous woman. . .I love April Fools

Thanks Dave.
The Cascades - March 14, 2010 - Report this comment
" 'Rhythm of the Rain' is a song performed by The Cascades, released in November 1962. It was written by Cascades band member John Claude Gummoe. It rose to #3 on the US pop charts on March 9, 1963, and it spent two weeks at #1 on the US "Easy listening" chart. The song was also a Top 5 hit in the United Kingdom and a #1 single in Ireland. In 1999, BMI listed the song as the ninth most performed song on radio/TV in the 20th century."

Zillion covers, but DF's didn't chart at all in the UK, nor in the US Pop chart, just #3 in the "Elevator Music" category (adult contemporary.)

It's often a question of which band to credit a multiple-covered song, but when one band was overwhelmingly responsible for bringing it to the public's ears, *and wrote it*, I'd go there. I realize that The Cascades were before your time, but two minutes on Wikipedia would have produced all of the above (as it just did).

This isn't a rating category, just personal opinion, but one hates to see the band who wrote it and made it a hit (not always the same) slighted for a modestly-successful cover. Sometimes, it's the other way around: Gene Pitney both wrote *and* recorded "Hello, Mary Lou" (Good-bye, Heart"), but it went nowhere. Ricky Nelson is irrevocably associated with it, for making it a hit. IMHO - YMMY. However, the covers prove that in fact, the pioneers of R'n'R are so classic that they're still being re-done even today --- proving their worth.

Ditto FG on the pacing, which is not surprising, as I believe she's read TT's Tips To Perfect Parody Pacing. Any chance you might? You're a funny guy and a talented writer; really don't like seeing these easy-to-fix glitches and having to deduct. Cheers.

Thanks for the comment TT. I found out on Wikipedia that The Cascades originally did the song, but Dan Fogelberg's one is the only one I've ever heard and the lyrics are slightly different so I decided to do this parody to that one. I try to get pacing completely correct, but personally don't mind if a line or two here and there is a little off.
